Winter water temperature...
Discussion
Me being a mechanical monkey (i.e. unqualified to comment) - I will comment anyway. I was always under the impression that colder the engine the more efficient that it runs. Ok, within bounds, but colder the air for example the more oxygen in it - therefore get it into the engine and a leaner burn.
Hence faster speeds of motor races when it is on a cold race track. How this works in reality and with a "normal" engine not sure.
My 4.0 runs at 70 when doing over 50MPH. Runs like a dream with no problems - and actually quite high fuel economy. Or is that because I am a wuss?
Cheers,
Paul

That holds good for the efficiency of the combustion process but I was looking at it from the perspective of getting the engine oil to sufficient temperature to work efectively (seem to remember about 85 degrees is optimum for most) and also from the entirely selfish angle of having a heater that works (although there are benefits in having a chilly cabin if the hatpegs on last night's passenger were any indication )
V8??...just four TL1000s zip-tied together, innit!?

It has been very cold recently and running temps are lower. If you block the rad, and then get caught in traffic, there is a risk that the car will overheat as it will get hot very quickly.
If the car maintains its temp in the summer, I would leave well alone!

Pupp,
I had this problem about 3 weeks ago. I took a spin down to the Eden Project in Cornwall (definitely worth a visit) and the termperature was between 55 and 70 whilst I was moving (at about the speed limit - honest ). I spoke with the dealer I got it from and they said they would have a look.
The next day I take the car in and after about an hour, I get a car back with a decent temerature. I spoke to the guy who did the job of replacing the thermostat and he said it took a good 5 minutes to close, causing over cooling.
Two days later at the TVRCC meet I met another owner who had the same over cooling problem ! It doesn't seem to show itself during the summer (you need all the cooling you can get !) but when it starts to get cold the engine doesn't get warm and neither do you
