ECU warning light
Discussion
Can anyone confirm the ECU warning light start sequence ? Mine was not connected until now, but it does not light for a few seconds on ignition on, as I would have expected. I assume it needs 12 volts fed through a dash indicator, that is earth switched via the yellow/ black wire in the ECU loom ? Do TVR even fit them ?
Thanks

Yes it's fitted. Occasionally it blinks at ignition on, but not always. When messing around with different 14CUXs I fitted one that turned out to be faulty. The car would start normally but any input from the throttle stalled the car and the ECU MIL light would come on solid.
So I assume it's only supposed to light when there's a hard fault.

There is an ignition on bulb check which causes the mil indicator to flash on startup.
When a fault is detected it stays on but not for all fault codes.
I think that if it's on all the time while the engine is running then you need to get it looked at 'cos that 'ain't right.
Strange, every pre (slatted front grille)96/97 chim i have veiwed lamp never worked. When a fault is detected it stays on but not for all fault codes.

I dont have any faults, but having connected the lamp up it does not pulse on as part of a lamp check during ignition on, as I would have expected. Ill disconnect a Lambda probe and see if it flags up a fault. Ive tried 2 ECU's and the results are the same so far.
It never flagged the lamp when one of my precats moved and sheared off the tip of one of the two oxygen sensors

According to the 14cux manual, anything sensor that causes the A/F ratio to drop outside limits, would light the lamp, and drop you into the get you home map. These are listed as : Water temp, throttle pot, airflow sensor or Lambda probes. Its also supposed to come on for a few seconds on power up. Looking at the number of "stab in the dark" type faults on this forum I dont ever recollect a TVR owner saying it was on when a fault occurred. Its possible the TVR mapping turns it off permanantly (???). Ill go and ask the local Range Rover center if they ever see it with the stock map.
Just crawled over a Range Rover classic, and there is not an EFI warning lamp at all, so I can only assume this warning light is on North American Export cars (as in Range Rovers) only, as they also have a fault code reader fitted as standard. The dealer said he had never seen an ECU warning light on any Range Rover classic series (up to the 3.9) I presume the serp engines have the Lucas Sajem ECU, that definately has an ECU warning light. Need not have ripped my dash to bits then to fit a light, but I guess the next question is how to turn the function on within the ECU.
Got the MIL light to come on in a Chim once when i was messing around with an OBD scanner wired to some of the ECU pins.
Car went into limp home mode, MIL light on permanently while engine running.
Took scanner off, MIL light went out and car came out of limp home programme.
So it may just indicate that you're in limp home mode and need to go see your dealer.

Holy thread resurrection!
Just fitted an ECU with the R3652 "Pride" EPROM, MIL illuminates at key on, off when engine running.
After a short trip the MIL illuminated, remains on through several ignition key cycles but, importantly, it doesn't seem to be using a "limp home" map (as if MAF or TPS failed) instead behaving normally.
