Info on chimaera

Okay, this is for all of you
At lunch time today I am going to look at my first chimaera with the potential of buying it. I was wondering if all you chimaera owners out there could give me a few tips on what to look for when looking at it, and also a few things I would like to know like where is the chassis number on them? and little things like where is the bonnet pull? so I actually look like I know what I am on about !!!!!!

Look for stone chips on the front of the bonnet and the rest of the bodywork for swirly marks suggesting poor care (look hard), wobbly front wheels (ensuring the steering and suspension is not loose), check for signs of water ingress in footwells and behind seats, check condition of leather seats, make sure all the electrical bits work (critical this, and a classic weak point), check tyre condition (they're not cheap to replace), check chassis and suspension components for rust if poss (unlikely but you don't want to get stung for it).

And the bonnet pull is under the dash on the left, the boot-opening button is mounted in the same area.

Err...my bonnet pull is under the dash on the right, and so is the boot opening button...

Depending on the age of the car:

Check the radiator if you can...mine was corroded to hell and had to be replaced.

Take the car for a decent run, turn the engine off, and then restart it ... if it doesn't (start that is) then there may be a problem with the starter motor (I believe a common fault with cars of a certain age) - again, something that had to be replaced on my car

Check that the wishbone bushes are ok(front back top and bottom)can be expensive if they need to be replaced,check for the hood splitting along the edge behind the driver and passenger doors and the last 1 i can think off is lots of tread on your tyres. apart from that have fun

Check condition of rear screen as they are expensive to replace, and a full service history from main dealer or good independent specialist is essential. You will love it!

Chassis no. is located on osf inner wing hand etched on plate also engraved on front top section of tubular chassis behind rad , as mentioned before watch electrics especially wiper motor they seem to suffer as located on top of nsf inner wing they tend to suffer more if vehicles are left outside (don't like salt water - terminals corrode) also ask if vehicles are fitted with options such as heated seats the controls on these tend to vary from car to car , heated mirrors are the same , make sure it still has the bag for the solid roof section if it hasn't "Leven" can supply one for about £50 . The lights are crap so if you can drive it at night make sure you can live with it apart from that it is the most fun you can have for "X" thousand pounds . Buy it, drive it , like it , love it !
