clutch trouble!!!?
Discussion
Just bin for a drive in my chim, nice gentle cruise around some local roads untill the clutch went a bit odd? managed to nurse the car home with minimal gearchange's as choosing any gear was a knightmare and the clutch pedal was almost solid. got the car up on the jack in the garage to have a look, and it would appear that the clutch fork in the gearbox has broken over its rocker post. is this a common fault, anybody had this problem before? can that fork be replaced without taking the gearbox off? im pretty handy on the spanners and a mate is a mechanic could we do it between us.
what do you reckon guys, is it a job for the dealer? hope not especially this side of xmas!! any advice welcome.
cheers guys.

Tonight when I arrived home (after a brilliant night at the Kensington Roof Gardens I must add! The women! Wow! *cough* Sorry...) my clutch is grinding away like a... well, something that grinds a lot.
I really don't know where it's coming from. It's the second time it's happened, and the dealer has fixed it twice in the past! It must be something pretty straight forward I guess. Has anyone else ever had this problem or is it a "personalised feature" of mine?

Must admit that my clutch is OK for the majority of time. However, let the engine get hot (stuck in traffic) and it will start juddering when you pull away.
I admit that it is likely that I will be "slipping" it more in traffic, but it seems temperature relevant - worrying really, though sure it is nothing major.
Cheers,
Paul

got my clutch sorted, one of the lads at TVR bodyshop.com carried out a mod he had used on E-type jags that allows you to get the fork out whithout taking the gear box out. roger at team proactive identified it as a land rover part and even had their part number for it! couple of hours fiddling in the bellhousing and job done!!
you guys should get your clutch's checked out before they go terminal and leave you stranded. you know how jo public like to see a flash sports car broken down.
all the best

I think my clutch has seen better days but am a bit confussed as to how TVR can quote £400+ for the bits when its out a seirra cossy
Is it the same but or is the TVR bit twecked, they both use a Borg Warner T5 gearbox and have simmilar power, any ideas?
Cossie says who? There are various different specs available, don't know how TVR mated the rover crank up to that gearbox but I wouldn't assume it's the same clutch used in a cossie. Seem to remember being charged quite a lot less than that last time I had a clutch replaced at Tower View, but I remember Mark recommended changing the whole assembly as a matter of course and it was couple of hundred pounds plus labour. Don't be tempted to go for lower spec parts that can't take the torque or you will be replacing it again in six months time.

i think TVR use the fly wheel and bell housing from early v8 rovers that i think used a borg warner box(although not a T5 box) and a suitable clutch friction plate with the clutch cover. TVR's do generate a lot of torque but they are pulling a lot lees weight than a range rover or discovery would. so a standard landie clutch is probably all they use.

p.s just a guess?

Yes but wrong. It is typically an uprated AP clutch. Some owners even fit the Tuscan race version. Range Rover clutches don't last and are a waste of time and money. Strongly recommend replacing the release bearing and even the release arm fork. Bent the last one in the 520 due to the 600 bhp AP clutch I am running.
