My fuel pump has been noisy recently, so would be interested to hear other owners comments.

Fuel pump... occasionally noisy on startup (say for 10 seconds) but apart from that, nada.

Except one day last summer, just prior to the failure of my throttle pot, when I could hear it full time, with the top down over the noise of the exhaust! It's never done that again though... mind you, it's never been as hot as it was that day.

If the pump is cavitating this produces a nasty rattling/knocking sound, this can lead to pump failure. Cavitation is more likely if the fuel level is low, and/or the engine (and hence fuel return flow) is hot and/or the pre-filter inside the tank is blocked.

Hope this isn't your problem,
Peter Humphries (and a green V8S)

I had my fuel pump replaced a few years ago as it had become really noisy. No problems since (I had no filter problems).

If you hear the pump prime when you turn the key and can only just hear it in the background when the engine is running that sounds about right. Any more noise from it then look at Peter's comments below or you may just need a new pump (apparently they used 2 types - one cheap and one expensive ... guess which mine was).

The pumps get noisy when hot usually. Why do they get hot? Fcuk knows! Budget to replace it sometime in the not too distant future tho, mine lasted another 12k miles from onset of whining noise to death and dishonour.

About the alarm, I had the same problem...

You may find it'll start going off on its own for no apparent reason.

Usually means that the siren unit needs replacing. If it's still under warranty the dealer should be able to do it for you in under an hour.

Maybe useful, depends where you live. I had major problems with my Selca Alarm. The only guys I could find to do a decent job were CATS in Farnham, Surrey. They know TVR's very well and since working on my Chimaera I've had no more trouble.

ha ha, this happened to me too surfer, I pulled the connector off the siren expecting it to go off and it didn't! the only way I could shut it up was to drop it into a bucket of water. Took it out the next day and off it went again! Apparently water runs down the bonnet onto the siren and seeps in thus buggering

surprisingly yes, the dealership couldn't find a fault with it (sound familiar?) so bunged it all back together and so far so good. I think wrapping it in a poly bag might help if it doesn't get too hot

i've got a meta on my everyday SAAB and it 'chirps' if i arm the alarm and one of the doors/boot/bonnet is not shut properly as a warning. do you have the operating instructions for yours? might be something similar? or it could be just buggered!!
