I have a 98R Chim 4.0L with a tvr stage 3(so I am told which means its the loudest you can get without removing the cats) sports exhaust the car sounds so much better, you wont beleive the difference fantastic right through the rev range, you get all kind of pops and bangs at about 2800 revs. It sets off car alarms at about 20ft ha ha just hope you have got good neighbours, fortunatly mine has a griff 500 !! I think if you have it done at a specialist or a dealer its about £150 - £200 and involves them cutting the baffles out of the existing exhaust the best thing that has been done to mine
I have a 3-qtr sports exhaust on my 4l Chimaera- not as noisy as a complete fit - and it sounds luvvly....far better than before...richer, bassier and oh ! that burbling sound is soooo much nicer It cost £100 at a specialist.

Have you guys had any problems getting in on track days? My Chim 500 has an especially quiet Swiss regulation exhaust (apparently the factory ran out of std units so fitted one of these export units to my car).
I know I'm missing out on a lot of great noise, although the car's still pretty loud. I'm reluctant to change it though as currently I know I'll have no problems with the noise regs at track days. Do you know how many dbs these sports exhausts kick out?

Anything upto 110dB depending on how it is done. 105 is common. As places like Oulton, Goodwood, Castle Coombe are all around 98 dB, it can be almost impossible to get on these tracks with a sports exhaust even with a silencer insert. As noise regs are only going to get tighter or more strictly enforced, this problem will get worse.

Depends on the track. Noisy at Goodwood is 105 but it is at 3/4 revs not the normal 2/3. The 520 was quietened down with an additional exhaust unit when I got pulled at a sprint with 117db (limit 108). It is now around 101-102 at 2/3 but spot on 105 at 3/4. At other tracks it can be 101, 103 and so on. You also need to be aware of what revs they are using and how it is measured.
I had a sports exhaust on my Cerbera and it was getting a joke because I couldn't quieten it enough to go to many of the places I wanted. Given the choice of a queiter car and being able to really enjoy it... No question: quieter car.
