Hi,

Does anyone know where the oil pressure sensor is located in a Chim? I hope its not the one behind the distributor in the centre of the block 'cos that looks like fun to get at. By the way, TMS quote £45 for a new sensor, Intermotor do one for £6 - mmmmm how odd. Part number is 50611.

Cheers,

Its near and plumbed into the oil pump bit above the oil filter.
The £45 pound probably has the advantage of fitting. There are a lot of different sensors/parts with different fittings used on the Rover V8. Make sure you have the exact same one. Some are even just pressure switches and not even sensors. It can also be a right swine to fit because of sleeves that can get mangled or won't fit. Even known the sensor to come off and leave the thread in situ. Details in the Bible.

Thanks Steve. I'll take the old one off first and go to the shops with it in the wife's Ford Focus.

The oil pressure switch just turns on the red light saying your engine is about to die, your engine is about to die, your engine ... ooops too late. This is a simple switch and shouldn't be more than a couple of quid.

The pressure gauge is driven by a much more complicated sender which produces a variable signal indicating actual oil pressure rather than just switching on/off. They look similar enough to be confused, they are usually both screwed into the oil filter head and use the same type of fitting, the switch is a lot smaller of course and usually just has one wire while the analog sender is bigger and usually has two wires. Ideally you should have both senders i.e. the pressure gauge and oil warning light should both work. My my V8S only had the analog sender as standard and the oil warning light was not connected. (It is connected now, to two big red lights and a loud buzzer.

Hope this helps,
