Dear all
After months of deliberation and questions on this forum about whether or not to take the plunge with a Chim, I've had over two months of virtually trouble-free motoring. Until last night...
Left my Chim500 outside a shop for approximately ten minutes. When I came out, some f*ck had dragged a key or a coin all down the drivers side and attempted to slash the roof. I'm so gutted. I'm not exagerrating when I say it looks a right mess.
We all know there're some sh!tty people out there, but it's still a sickener when it happens. A friendly warning to all: please be vigilant where you park yer car. I wouldn't wish it on any one.

Sorry to hear that, unfortunatley as you said the world has some sick fookers living on it. Will insurance cover the damage. They are usually quite good when you come to renew as it is malicious damage that has caused you to claim. On the other hand you could get a full side respray for a few hundred cash in hand from a specialist.
I can imagine what your feeling like, but try not to loose heart.

gervaised, it happened a few miles out of Wigan town centre, Lancs.
I've told my insurance company and they tell me they'll accept the claim of malicious damage/vandalism, and I'm lucky in the fact that I've got protected no claims. It's the roof that's gonna cost I reckon. I'll probably opt for a new one seeing as the insurance company are being so accomodating.
I can understand dickheads STEALING cars and joy riding or whatever, but to just scratch it or damage it for a "laugh" really gets me.

Spooky, Having followed your thread and then subsequent purchase etc, I feel for you – you'll feel better when it's sorted – but don't give these idiots any credence by saying you UNDERSTAND them stealing cars – in my mind that is on a par or worse than scratching the paint, slashing the hood etc.
I don't understand them at all.

MikeyT: Yeah, point taken. I suppose what I really meant to say was, wrong and criminal though stealing cars is, I presume they joy-ride for pleasure and kicks (as well as selling them of course). I find that easier to understand than people getting kicks out of vandalism.
But you're right, I'll feel better once my baby's sorted.

Spookey - gutted for you mate. It makes me feel even more worried that I have to leave my car out on the street the whole time, albeit under a full cover. On the bright side (although I appreciate how hard it must seem to realise there in one!!) if you get a whole new roof you have the option of choosing a different colour and the fact that it will brand spanking new - both of which will add good value to your car. This increase may even make up for any increase in premium or x/s you have to pay. That is of course if you ever decided to sell which I wouldn't advise. Good luck.
PS have a look at the Griff pages because someone found a very cheap place to get new roofs (much less than our good friends the TVR dealers anyway).

Spookybuzz: Sorry, probably took your comments too literally! I know people can steal and then sell the car and I can recognise the benefits (to them) of doing that – what you were saying is, essentially since there is no benefit to them from scratching a car (albeit, some mindless self-satisfaction at destroying someone elses's property), there is no way that can be understood. Point taken. Enough of the psychiatric history discussion and tell me – what's the best thing about owning the Chimp? Cos I'm gonna be joining ya in 2002 ...

GRF500. Cheers, I'll certainly take a look at some roof places (though with the insurance company paying, I may go to a dealer).
Mikey: Best thing about owning a Chimp? Well, lemme put it this way: they're high-maintenance, very thirsty, not perfectly built, prone to overheating, prone to leaking, attract thieves and vandals(!!!) but once you drive and own one, everything is worthwhile. I still feel like a kid going on a rollercoaster when I drive it. Va Va Vooooom.....

Chin up Spooks!
Just content your self with the knowledge that you OWN a TVR, you actually get to drive YOUR TVR, you get to experience the massive rush of pure pleasure that goes with all that, every time you turn the key.
When you look in the mirror, you are looking at a TVR owning man. Be proud!
That mongrel son of a b*tch who did the damage will probably never know how much angst he caused you, but also he almost certainly will never know for himself how much pleasure the beast brings to people like us cos he will be too stupid to achieve one.
So just pity the sad f*cker.
And if you ever discover who it is, find him and make sure he learns the error of his ways on behalf of TVR owners everywhere!
Good luck
Andy

Hard luck spooks, hope you get it sorted.
The other type of senseless shite is the one that takes the 'he can afford a TVR so he can afford to fix it' attitude.
A similar son-of-a-bitch (probably a Volvo or MPV driver - to generalise, duck!!) put a huge scratch on my chims rear wing in a car park (obviously parking is far beyond that persons ability).
Fortunatley I didn't have to claim for that incident, since I did a spot of arse re-modelling via a hedge a couple of weeks later.
Another problem is the actual paintwork on Tivs, it's dead easy to scratch, dent. Total care must be taken when cleaning (esp when removing bird crap!!)
Hope you get it sorted ok and that the culprits die in a slow and painful way...
Steve

Sorry to hear what's happened Spooky old mate!
It's hard to imagine what people get out of doing something like that. It's rare though for them to do it to Tivs... most people respect the bit of British motoring... even the scum.
Hope you get it sorted without too much hassle!

Bar Stools,
I would park the car in the same place at the same time and see who comes by with sinister motives, while being hidden away with a big fcuk-off base ball bat to knock some sense into them.
OK, I wouldn't use it (much) but these oiks should be taught a lesson!

macca: I must admit I have thought about that! Mebbe I should christen the car "Christine" (a la Stephen King's book) and the car would get the vandal herself!
Ordered the new roof and booked the car in for a respray. I'm just umming and ahhing whether or not to change the colour, but don't know whether that's allowed with it being an insurance job. Anyone?
