For cheap mats, which I know isn't quite the same as cheap carpets, take a trip down to your local carpet warehouse.

For once its best if you have the wife in tow.

When approached by the salesperson say that you can't quite decide which of two very close shades of the same carpet will go best in your large 25 ft through lounge/dining room.

Take the two mat sized pieces that the salesman offers you for evaluation home, install in your car footwells and never return to the shop.

Result, shiny new cheap (free actually) mats.
