Where are you Stig???

I had mine (griff 500) fitted at peninsula.

It dropped the average Temp by 5 degrees!! It means the fans don't have to work so hard.

I ripped a spoiler off and had it replaced. It's a cheap part and is held on by rivets, so the bill was cheap.

The blokes at Waldenway told me it makes a noticeable difference to a Chim's high speed stability.

I'm a little sceptical about the size of the cooling benefit. It can only have an effect on the airflow through the bonnet when the car is on the move, and I would guess the car would have to be moving pretty quickly. The fans only ever cut in when I am in stop-start traffic, and at these speeds I can't see there being any impact from the spoiler.

I was very relieved to read the content of this thread ....... the title gave me the shivers thinking that someone was going to ask about putting some sort of plank or whale tail fin on the boot lid. Panic over.

Stig,

Just re-fitted a new one today, since the last one was eaten by a speed hump.

£11 (plus vat) from TMS (dead helpful parts dept!!) www.tmstvr.co.uk. Took about 20 mins to fit, just made some small pilot holes then screwed it on with 3/4" self tappers.

Good luck

Should all Chimps have one or does it only apply post 'nose change'

Mine is a 95 pre nose change, and doesn't have one, but there do appear to be rivet holes where one would fit.

Ahem, said cars are known as Chimaeras, unless you're referring to the drivers.

I don't know if all cars 'should' have one, but you can fit one to any Chimaera anyway.

It does help with the cooling once you drive off from a traffic jam etc. the car cools down really quickly compared to taking ages without the front splitter.

As I've posted before, I once had a Jaguar design engineer who specialises in cooling systems give my Chimaera the once over, while I was changing the rad for an alloy one.

His opinion was that the Chimaera suffers the opposite problem to most cars - you could get the hot air out, but you have trouble getting cold air in. He concluded that my (pre facelift model) Chimaera needed a spoiler just under the nose to create a low pressure area behind the radiator to suck cool air through. Other minor recommendation was to reduce the number plate size, or move it out of the way as much as possible, to allow more air in.

He had no knowledge of the spoiler fitted to later cars, and neither did I at the time.

I'd haven't fitted a spoiler to mine as the alloy rad had (more than) the desired effect (if anything I need a rad blind now to get the temp up!), but nonetheless it's good to know that TVR seem to know what they are doing at least some of the time!!

Where does one fit it on a pre noselift model ?

I have seen other postings (?) about a diffuser that is fitted about 2ft back from the nose, is this one and the same ?

I can see 4 holes about 2ft back on mine, but no spoiler/diffuser.

Thanks Phil
I have fitted a smaller(am sure plod would not like it) front plate and lowered it's position it now runs cooler and am also getting more air to my oil cooler too.
I was wondering if the spoiler would help make the car more stable at speed.

ching, sounds like you need to fit a spoiler where those holes are

Apache, I guess so. Maybe the previous owner fitted one and it has been dislodged via grounding on a speed bump ?

Like I say it's a pre nose job, and no one seems to know if they were fitted as 'standard'

There is a piccy on my website - www.motion-lotion.co.uk.

Warning - the site is a bit of a mess right now, to be fixed in a day or two (moving house today/tomorrow (I wish Pickfords would close the front door as it's freezing in here!).

Stig

Part number (since I have the invoice to hand) is TU0890, 'C02TOP LIP SPOILER', £11.65 (ex vat)

This may be TMS's own code, but its a start!!

CC,

It screws into the underneath of the nose at the back (near the chassis, ie right under the radiator cavity).

Mine is a 1996 pre-face lift and had the spoiler as standard. A friend's 1995 did not have the spoiler. Later cars (1997 on??) have a kind of double slot cut into the GRP under the 'bumper' on one side of the car. I have no idea what that is for!
