Before the dreaded salt starts getting spread all over, thought I'd have a go at a couple of bad patches on me chassis...drill seems to be flake off defective powder coat and surface rust, use rust-killer, hammerite...any enhancements? Is that too easy?

V8??...just four TL1000s zip-tied together, innit!?

hammerite is fine...I also slapped old engine oil on the front wishbones and that works a treat

i've never been that impressed with hammerite, unless you get in on properly
(right temp and consistancy) it leaves lots of pin holes. and when you do get it on it chips easily.

also the thinner is expensive, and i can never get the brushes clean properly...

although i've had better sucess witht eh smooth version... although not with a good finish

I have also had problems getting a resilient finish with Hammerite - I would agree the Smootherite is better, as the silicon in the hammered version does have a tendency to pinholes.
For a quality (time no object!) job, I found Masons "Miogard" transport primer, followed by P-Type enamel top coat was execellent (if the new owner of Wedge E679 GTF is lurking, tell me how it is standing up!!).
For a quick but effective (but not pretty) finish which does not chip, Finnegans Waxoyl underbody paint is good - this is what I used on the Griffs front wishbones, with the spray on Hammerite to get at the unpaintable bits (the latter being a horrible messy job - its famed water repelling qualities make it hard to wash out of your hair, though not as bad as Hammerite!).
Anyway, what else is winter for? (I am in danger of having to redecorate the house if I cannot find some "urgent jobs" that need doing on the Griff - any suggestions for any jobs which sound awfully time consuming but are not really too bad?
