Its that time of year when the rubbers getting low on the back tyres. At the moment i'm running on bridgestones. Has anyone come across a better alround trye without loosing the handling capabilites. at £168 a tyre, I was wondering what else would be as good for a little bit less. if not then stick with what i know. no harm in asking.

Cheers

For rear tyres? I paid £99 each last time (245/45/ZR16) from Micheldever --and they'll deliver them too. But SO2/3s are the best for the car. You might be able to save £50 by buying cheaper tyres but is it worth it if they let you go backwards into a hedge? False economy IMHO.

Hi,

Can anyone give a review of S03's......... I read somewhere that SO2's were now hard to come by (had no probs finding some 2 months ago, can anyone confirm this)and that S03's were not as good ?

Cheers

Chris

PS: the SO2's for £78 were not for the back 2

£168 ?!?

I've just ordered 2 225/50/16 S03s from Jet Tyres in Essex - £106 each, fitted and balanced.

Fronts were about £75 each fitted a few months ago.

Pigemiester - Can't give a proper review as I only had SO3's fitted on the rear last Friday (Micheldever 109.80GBP inc everything). Still have SO2's on the front and now I have the tyre pressures right (originally they put 30psi in one and 36 in the other!) I like them seem to be grippy but perhaps I can feel a little more understeer from the fronts - perhaps my imagination.
I was at Fernhurst Saturday morning and the mechanic there reckons he has only heard good about them, as I said they seem OK but I've only done a couple of hundred miles on them so far.

I have fitted Good Year FI's all round and the improvement is amazing. Previously I has S02's. All 4 tyres were bought for £350 fitted.

I spoke to one of the service boys at the TVR factory last week about SO2's v SO3's.
He said they don't like the SO3's as they are too rigid, inflexible, and are currently trying some other makes. He mentioned Avon and one other but I can't recall.......

For info Jet tyres in Essex (Canvey and Basildon) are on 01268 511161 or 822828. Chimaera fronts were 77 each.

I had SO3s fitted yesterday and they were very slippy for the first mile (release agent all over the tyres) and the tread pattern is a bit retro - more like an RE71 than an SO2.

What surprised me was that the tyres that came off the car were the wrong size - 225-55-16 instead of 225-50-16. They were bought by the previous owner and have lasted 20k miles - I must press harder on the right pedal this time.

Toyos are now the prefered tyre for the 18 inch wheels on the Tuscan, Tuscan S, Cerbera 4.2,4.5 and Speed Six - whereas Tamora now runs on Avon 16 inch higher profile ones.

Make sure these tyres are fitted correctly as the Toyos are directional and the Spider wheels are cambered indifferent ways dependent upon whether they are front or rears.

Ive been using SO3's for a week now and so far.....not happy, they feel hard and slippy and I am reluctant to hoof it as much as I did with SO2's, maybe things will get better with time

Apache, I've had my SO3's for a week too now and I agree, they do seem slippery and hard, but I've not'lost it' yet and haven't altered my driving style, maybe it is something we will get used to?
I did wonder about dropping the pressures a little but was worried about the effect on tread wear etc. so have left it.
Maybe lighting the tyres up a bit at the beginning of a journey to get the heat in to them and making the 'melt' a little would help!!

now I'm convinced, tried a modicom of welly in 3rd and they just lit up big time, how the f**k can a major tyre manufacturer supercede a good tyre with a Korean special....impressed the bystanders though

what tyre pressures are you lot using? (im on 22 front, 24 back). bought a set of so3s 2wks ago. took them for a spin around the lakes, and they were great. (however i did for a while have temporary crappy tyres on the back, before the so3s - so this might account for the perceived improvement in handling).

These SO3's are growing on me, gave her a bit too much welly off a roundabout this morning, quite a tight turn, 90 degrees but quite open 2 lanes if that makes sense? The road was damp I was in third and felt the back slide but it was such a smooth and controlled break away it was hardly noticable, a minor adjustment on the wheel brought her back in to line with out any traumas.
Don't get me wrong, this was no tank-slapper type tail out full blown Peter Humphries type slide but enough for me to notice, and comparing a similar event (will I ever learn )with my SO2's I felt this was far more in control and controlable. Time will tell I guess.
Don't get me wrong I'm not a full on mental give it everything type of guy who larges it everywhere, but sometime the old girl catches me knapping

£ 168.00?????
Have today been quoted £99.00 for S02 front and £132.00 for S02 rears - from ATS - they have depots all over the place so should be one near you.

Thanks
