Anyone who visits this site regularly will probably have noted my posts on an odd rattle coming from the boot. Due to the type of sound I thought it was something knocking the fuel tank, spare tyre or toolkit.
Well last night on my way home, as I pulled away from a junction I heard a massive bang/thump from the rear end. The next step was to have my poor Chimaera recovered back to my home on a flatbed truck (£80 to move it 1 mile).

Tonight I started the car, put it in gear, raised the clutch and went nowhere. However the speedo did move. Is the speedo drive taken from the output shaft of the gearbox?? I guess the problem lies with the diff or half shafts.

Please post any ideas...

Regards
Brian

The speedo and rev counter drive are taken from the diff. If they move then the transmission is working up to that point.

TVR diffs are apparently quite expensive. Maybe you can get one from a breakers yard (there are a few specialist TVR breakers). I was also told that if your car is an older model the new diff won't fit with some mods either.

Good luck.
