Yes I'm back again with my rattely noise. I appear to have a fairly high pitched metal on metal or metal on hard plastic noise coming from my boot. This rattle only occurs when coasting (clutch engaged) or when braking. Under acceleration, however slight, the noise disappears. Replies to my last post on this suggested fuel tank baffles or the sender unit. Since then I ran the tank almost dry then refilled to max. This gave no change to the pitch or volume, so I suspect maybe a red herring. I've also emptied my boot of the spare tyre, toolkit and even removed the CD changer. Any idea's would be most welcome.

Not sure if this will help but had a slightly similar problem on my 96 Griff a while back. Very nasty grinding noise from the rear when braking or coasting. Turned out that one of the rear diff mounting brackets had broken causing the chassis and diff/axle to come together whenever the suspension would let it. That was the noise. Other problem though was that it was causing sparks to fly around the fuel pump too!! Not so good and so the car was taken straight off the road! Too dangerous to drive! Just shows that you really do need to get these things checked asap!
