"As someone who forgot to remove the spare wheel before a track day, then had it tear loose halfway around Redgate" Read above in "Wierd noises" thread and bit confused - First TVR (Chimaera 500) arrives on 12 November, just in time for frost and ice - been waiting since mid July I wasn't expecting a spare wheel with mine - just a can of some foam stuff. Having tracked Chim/Griff threads for the last couple of months, any advice on what else I should carry to deal with overheating (paper clip in otter switch I heard), alarm going off, stepper motor (??) seizing etc etc - Even tho it's new it seems I can expect all this anyway. Don't start the build quality stuff again - just ideas on useful essentials Thanks

Breakdown Recovery Phone Number, Mobile Phone, Taxi Fare, and Raincoat. Not that you'll need them, it'll just make you feel more relaxed. Good Luck!!

Next time you have the Tiv serviced or are near a dealer get a spare 'fan' belt as the V8 has used a variety in its time and sods law, if and when yours goes no-one will have the exact one in stock. As for bits to carry I though about this when I got mine and prepared a mini tool kit, only for the Tiv to be 100% reliable! See also Steve Heaths article in Sprint July 2001.

What do you need? A good pair of shades. (They got rid of the spare wheel a couple of years ago to give more space in the boot).

Thanks for the ideas and the note on spare wheel Caro - so does this foam work? How many cans should I carry. Also just read the stuff on warranties - can I get an extended warranty on a new one - buying from Mole Valley - who also said waxoyling and amourfend a waste of money. Waxoyling won't make a differencein their view and amourfend looks a mess and rips easily taking the paint with it Lots of threads from people who can't seem to decide what to buy - I only looked at 2nd hand 911's and TVR - only needed 2 miles down the road in the Chim 500 to make an easy decision V8 racket an easy winner, my V8 Discovery doesn't sound like that and only does 14 to gallon so Tivs even going to be more economical - an added incentive to use it in preference

My car came with 2 cans of foam, which I haven't had to use so far. I always take my mobile with me and am in the AA, but the only time I have had to call them in 16 months was because the fuel gauge is not quite accurate down in the nether regions... You are right, once you drive one, feel the power and get that noise, there is no other choice - enjoy it! If you want an extended warranty, why not take one out at the end of the first year to coincide with the initial warranty expiring?

I have just extended mine with Warranty Holdings, well worth the peace of mind, as for rust protection, I've heard the same thing and was advised to slap old engine oil on the wishbones, believe it or not it works a treat

If U need any further convincing, this month's Classic & Sports Car has a whole section on John Surtees rating the 10 best British sports cars ever. OK it's Brits only but the Chimp gets = 1st with the AC Ace. Such wisdom!
