Stephen Your car looks similar to mine.... check out my link try the road north from Ambleside, thru grasmere, up dunmail raise (give him some serious welly up there), keep going past thirlmere, turn right thru threlkeld, right again towards penrith, right again down to Ullswater (lots of different roads, take your pick), right again when you get to the lake, up the kirkstone pass, right at the pub and you are back in Ambleside. Stop at the Golden Rule at the bottom of the hill for a pint. Have a good trip. Be very careful on the way down the kirkstone as some bits simply aren't wide enough for two cars, especially if one is a volvo being driven by a blind hat-wearing caravan- towing idiot. Have fun. richard PS looks like you've got a freelander too! Edited by yum on Thursday 27th September 22:04

Hiya, Steve! Go up to Harrogate and across to the M6 roundabout south of Kendal via Settle - starts as the A59,then becomes the A65. Follow the signs to Long Preston after the Skipton bypass. Great road, and much better than munching the motorway miles, even though it takes longer. Also, if the weather's nice, give Muncaster Castle a visit. The road over the back of Black Combe is just fabulous single track with great views down to the coast - get off the A595 in the south Lakes, near Broughton in Furness, and head for Ulpha, then Eskdale Green. If you like, you can then turn right, and scrape your way down Hardknott pass - but it's not for the faint-hearted, especially in a TVR! Last time I went UP Hardknott pass, it got so steep that at one point my pull-out radio fell out of the dash and knocked the gearstick into neutral!!!

Hi Nubbin, Tried the Hardknott Pass, Wrynose Pass and Kirkstone Pass. Hardknott and Wrynose have some serious bends and I can see why your radio fell out. I had to take my seatbelt off to get high enough in the seat to see where the road was going on some of the drops. The views were good!

Hi Yum Your car looks darker than mine or is it the light? I tried your route past Kirkstone and Ullswater on the way out to Penrith and then on to Newcastle (had some freebie tickets for the Liverpool game - my wife is a Liverpool supporter (calm down, calm down), I went for the free beer) Cheers Macca PS The Freelander isn't mine, the picture happened to be taken on a friends drive Edited by macca on Monday 1st October 19:54
