I ran out of petrol today in my Chimaera 500, less than 24 hours after getting it back from the garage after my recently reported overheating problems were fixed. Bit embarrassing - but it is only the 3rd time I''ve filled it up since I got it, and both previous times that was at about 216 miles. I ran out at 205 miles today. And my fuel gauge lies - it was above empty when I ran out. Looking back over past posts, I can now see that I should treat the gauge as a hint rather than an accurate reading, and fill up before 200 miles without fail too. Anyway, the reason I''m posting this message is to get advice as to whether or not I might need to have my injectors cleaned now that I''ve sucked up the dregs of my fuel tank. How serious is it to run out of fuel? I mean, I know it''s not good on any car, but is it especially bad on the engine in the Chimaera 500? Thanks in advance Jon PS. If you were on the A33 Basingstoke to Reading this morning and saw a Cherry Pearl Chimaera - that was me. If you were the young man in the BMW Touring who stunned me by stopping and offering his phone then thanks for the offer, but I had mine with me.

If you decide your fuel sender is faulty, I have a spare one you can have for a small consideration!!

Don't worry too much about ruinning out, I'm sure that it will be fine. As regards the fuel gauage, I would fill up soon after it dips towards 1/4. Mine will do approx 120 miles without the gauge moving but once it does, I start thinking about a petrol station!
