Anyone else find the whistling from the open ends of the roof struts when motoring targa style annoying? Any ideas how to neatly plug the ends to stop this? For those that have never noticed, it sounds like someone blowing over the top of a bottle.

MY GRIFF DOES THAT, I THOUGHT ABOUT BLOCKING IT OFF WITH A BIT OF EXPANDING FOAM. HOWEVER IM USED TO IT NOW AND FIND IT QUITE RELAXING.

A foam plug would work I guess. It could be stuffed inside a little so it wasn't visible. I'll try that - any other ideas anyone?

It sounds like you have something missing! When I bought my chimaera it had on one side a rubber moulding which covered the tube end and also the domed nut, I later found the other one behind the seat. While inspecting it the thing came off in my hand and as yet I haven't refitted it because I haven't decided what would be the best glue to use. Your right though the whistling is really anoying.

Is this the one that goes "Why do my roof struts whistle? Because they don't know the words." Anyway the answer is hopefully obvious, you need more power. Peter Humphries (and a green V8S)

You should have 2 x rubber bungs in the end of the struts. As Bob says these fall out but I found a good blod of rubber vulcanising solution keeps them well stuck in, usual rules apply; put it on both parts and let it dry before sticking it in place. p.s. that's the stuff you mend bicycle inner tubes with Rich...

Aha! I've had the car from new (96) and it has never had these bungs! Either someone forgot to put them in on my car, or they were a post 96 mod. Anyone got a 96 or earlier car which has these, just out of interest? PS Peter - I tried decatting, but it still ain't loud enough to drown out the whistle! But you're right, if I can notice things like that the car just isn't working me hard enough! Edited by philshort on Tuesday 25th September 17:17

my 94 chimaera doesn't have the rubber bungs, and it does whistle. On the rare occasions I do targa style, I stick a piece of tissue paper in it. not a big problem, surely? More right foot will take your attention away..
