Started my 4.0 Chim this morning, oil pressure guage went wild heading straight for the max way past 90.....any car movement sent the needle moving back and forth......once warmed normality was resumed ..... any ideas anyone ?

Sounds electrical. Probably at the sender's end if it is the only guage playing up and running the car for a while is having an impact. Tracing the fault and replacing the sender on my Chim was the first job I had done and wasn't too expensive. I think it was about £30 parts and £30 labour. £60 down the bog, but peace of mind restored.

Had the same happen on my grif. When cold the gauge would read high and then go to zero. Had the sender changed and all was back to normal. Sender was about £40.

Happened to me about six or nine months ago. I ignored it since it was obviously electrical. A week or so later it stopped happening, and hasn't happened since. -Manek-

Had a similar intermittent problem with the water temperature guage. It worked most of the time, but every now and then was completely dead. Needless to say one of the times it was playing dead was when the car decided to loose all its coolant. No harm done, thank God, but a case of the brown trousers.
