I''ve just got my Chimaera back from its 30k BIG service (ouch). My girlfriend''s map reading got a bit wayward this w/end, so I pulled over and tried to put on the hazard lights only to discover that they are no longer working. Neither is the fog light. All was working fine before the car went in for the wallet bashing service ... which is nice. Now, I''ve been deprived of the car for two weeks (garage had a backlog of work even tho I''d booked well in advance ... also nice) and in that time I can''t remeber what the bloody hazard/fog light push buttons normally feel like when you press them. It seems to me they now feel different. They have no travel at all near the centres, put roll a little bit if you push them near an edge. I also remember that the bit you press used to be able to rotate so that the hazard triangle symbol might well be upside down. They are now rigidly fixed. Have I gone mad? Is it normal to have no travel and no rotation? If the dashboard has been monkeyed around with during the service, is it possible to jam these switches by misaligning something? If there is a quick fix anyone can recommend I''d be very grateful. Alternative is to get seriously medieval with the service boys.

On mine the buttons pop ‘out’ rather than ‘in’ when switched on, so you only get any significant travel when you switch them off. Also, when operating, they are illuminated around the edge. My hazard triangle does not rotate. ‘97 Chim 450

Cheers Macca, then I have only gone half mad. Definitely something mechanically screwed up with the switches. Feels like they're stuck fully in, but not on or illuminated. Don't really fancy taking the dash off, but that may be the best way to find out what is going on. Can't believe it is anything too serious. Also can't believe the plonkers at the garage screwed this up. Last time they had the car they were supposed to be fixing the wing mirror door switch. After a while I noticed the speaker in that door was dead. Took speaker out and discovered they hadn't reattached the speaker wires before replacing it after they'd done the work on the mirror wiring. No attention to detail. And it takes me several hours to take the car to them and then pick it up. Would only cost them a few minutes work to sort these bits out, but it costs me a chunk of the weekend. Rant ends.
