Please somebody help me before I am set upon by my irrate neighbours - I am rapidly earning my place in the list of neighbours from hell with a car alarm that sets itself off at 3 o''clock in the morning! My 2000 Chimaera 500 is fitted with the standard Meta MT99T2 alarm and immobiliser. When I got the car about 6 weeks ago, the alarm both armed and disarmed silently with just normal indicator flashes. Recently, and for no apparent reason, the alarm, when armed, ''chirps'' 3 times along with the normal indicator flashes. The alarm is then prone to setting itself off frequently and with no obvious cause at all times of the day!!! The ''chirping'' during arming is an intermittent feature of my car''s alarm system, and when the alarm arms ''normally'' ie silently, no problems seem to be encountered?!?? Any advice on the workings and behaviour of the Meta MT99T2 alarm would be gratefully received! (Before my neighbours get hold of me!)

Are you sure your doord/boot/bonnet are properly closed? If they are not and you arm the alarm you will have problems - as I found out in front of 'boy racer' Halfords to my embarassment!

Well they seem to be. I probably need to find and check out the respective microswitches - does anyone know where they are located for the boot lid and bonnet?

Sorry, I don't know where the microswitches are, but i do know that my 2000 450 is like yours in that it seems to chirrup if it thinks something is open (once it was the boot, once I couldn't find the cause). It then goes back to silently setting and unsetting. How about opening both doors, the bonnet and boot, taking the roof off, and then replacing the roof, closing everything and resetting the alarm? Good luck with it, and please post when you get it sorted in case mine does it again!!

The door contacts are in the sill (they also work the interior light). Check that the little pad on the door is closing the switch properly.

Following a long chat with the man from Meta, my alarm is now sorted. Quite straight forward really but I don't believe in promulgating the workings of our primary defence against the low-life GTA practitioners so I won't tell you about it here. If anybody wants to know more, especially caro, please feel free to drop me a line! ald.mail@virgin.net
