Does anyone have any opinions, for or against the 4.0 High Compression Chims?
The HC cars have a standard compression ratio but a high lift cam, this is claimed to add about 35 bhp over standard. I think those figures are very optimistic, in any case I'm not convinced there is such a thing as a 'standard' engine as they seem to vary wildly, and I don't actually know whether all HCs are the same or even whether they actually are different to the standard engines. Assuming the engines are actually different, I would expect somewhere around 10/15 bhp would be a realistic power gain from this sort of cam change, but it would sacrifice bottom-end torque to get it. Cheers, Peter Humphries (and a green V8S with high compression and a high lift cam, amongst other things ...)

Like Peter says there is not much in it other than thinking you've got something more exclusive. I'd go for a 4.3 if I were after something different. Otherwise buy a 4.0L (or 4.0L HC) in the exact colour/spec you want. Drop a new camshaft in (£600 fitted) and you're up to HC power anyway. A good 4.0L is probably no different to an 'off perfect' HC anyway. If it's power you're after go for a 5.0 litre, no question. Trefor/. Edited by trefor on Thursday 27th September 19:04

Chaps I would agree with peter on this one. I have a 94 4.0HC which I like very much and would recommend this model to anyone, The characteristics are some what different from the 4.0L models with less torque low down but once over the 3000 mark it pulls like a train. I would say that the extra power is something like 5-10bhp at the wheels over a standard 4.0L after having my chim on a r/road. They are great fun, but you need to keep them on song, and are lumpy as hell around town.
