Seem to be having a pricey run of luck at the moment. Picked the car up on Friday having paid out for a new starter. On my way to Duxford on Saturday I had gearbox problems. NO reverse whatsover and could only get first by travelling via second. The whole unit seems to have moved towards the driver and the left hand side of the box feels completely vague and missaligned. Can somebody please tell me that this is a cheap, easy to fix problem that I shouldn''t lose any sleep over. Whatever needs doing it will go to a non franchised TVR specialist. Does it sound like a new box? Does the girlfriend need to go back on the game? Skint of Enfield 93'' Chimaera 4.3 (older style gearbox)

HI There's this plastic ball thingy at the bottom of the gear stick that can break and when that happens you sort of lose your "H". Mine broke on my old Griff and it felt as though the gearstick was a porridge spoon. Richard at Peninsula diagnosed it over the phone and fixed it in 2 hours for less than a hundred quid. Call him on 01884 35341 Hope this helps. Marco

My first Chimaera had a similar problem. It turned out to be a bush at the end of gear lever which had broken. Gear lever was all over the place - felt soggy. Was not very expensive. John

Thanks for your encouraging posts. I am beginning to realise that to be enthusiastic about TVR's is not always enough. You really need to have at least basic mechanical knowledge or rather deep pockets.

Mine had a similar sounding problem and the Gear Linkage Lever something or other had broken, it was only about 30 quid from TVR and a mechaninc fitted it for about 40 quid. I now have reverse and first gear..

Jost spoken to David Batty, I told him the age of my car and he diagnosed the problems I was having! The part, (something to do with gear linkage)is about a tenner and should be about 2 hours labour. Fingers crossed, thats all it is.
