How to catch thrush with Chimaera
Discussion
Out driving the other evening in my Chimaera with my wife, when we both noticed a pretty bad smell. For once it wasn''t me, (or her) and as the car had recently been serviced, I was doing my best to blame the garage for spilling something nasty on the engine.
It was then that my wife remembered that 2 weeks previously I had hit a bird whilst speeding down a country lane.
When we got home, I had a look in the air intakes and sure enough, there was a thrush that had been dead for two weeks, nicely decaying after having been cooked a few times by the radiator.
I had to use a pair of coal tongs to get it out. Not the best job in the world.
I think I might try and fit a grill to the front.
Anybody else collected anything bigger?
I had a dirty great big blackbird hit the front of my MGB once, I thought it parted company with the front of the car, so carried on for about 85 miles though lots of villages wondering what the strange looks I was getting as I past through. The bird had wedged itself in the slats in the grill and was dripping it's innereds all over the front of the car.
Of course, I didnt spot this till I'd got to my destination. That was fun to clean off.
On the IoM once on a bike - GT750 Suzuki - and after frantic and unsuccessful avoiding action (you think women drivers are indecisive?), hit a hen at about 40mph.
I stopped, a guy following stopped and said "you don't want to go back there mate". Looked down and there were 2 nicely fried eggs on my expansion chambers. I didn't go back for a look!
Last Monday, a friend of mine hit a deer. More to the point, she was riding a ZX6R, and stayed on it too. Bike worse for wear though, deer definitely worse for wear.
The day after, a friend lent her his CBR900 so she could continue commuting to work. She's completely unfazed by the whole thing... it was just the rest of us who were shaken up!
