As it is a nice day I thought I would finally look at the car and figure out this issue.
It is reluctant to start when it does it pops, bangs and misses, the right hand bank (offside) cat is glowing red hot after minutes of keeping it going.
I have advanced and retarded the timing to no avail
I have just swapped the lambda sensor plugs over in case I got them mixed up in the rebuild and it seems better, but it is still over fuelling and now flooded, waiting for it to cool.
I am going to order Rover Gauge, but I will be honest I have no idea what I am doing with computers, is it complicated to install? Or just plug and play, you need understand, luddite.
If it helps
Power spark dizzy
Bosch coil
New cam (kent standard)
New lifters
Newish fuel pump
I will admit there is a small kink in the copper return pipe, could it be something that simple? Fuel not getting back to the tank quickly enough?

I would pay attention to the ignition system as 90% of the problems on these cars are misfires.
Verify you have the leads in the correct order.
Check your coolant temp sensor is plugged into the correct connector.
Fuel flow and return pipes on the correct place.
Fuel pressure regulator vacuum hose connected.
Just some basic things.

What, if anything, have you messed with since it last ran?

Leads all correct, I'm sure I've got temp sensor correct, fuel flow fine.
It was running lovely, then it wasn't.

Nothing.
Broke cam in, took it out workshop, trailered home, took it off trailer, moved it around the drive a week later, it ran out of fuel and now we are here.

I shall see what RG picks up next week, the only thing that changed really was I rerouted the return line and put a kink in it, my only thought is that fuel can't get back quick enough and has to go somewhere, which is into the engine?

The fuel return is on the other side of the pressure regulator so doubtful it would get back into the engine.

The fuel return is low pressure, if you have some hose you could temporarily pipe it in to a fuel can and see if the car then runs better.

Check the plugs are not heavily fouled as starting it and just moving it around can cause issues. Doubtful its that though.
Seems odd it happened after running out of fuel.

That is what perplexes me, the timing wasn't fully set and it did just get dumped off the trailer and on to the drive, then it was moved, ran out of fuel, fresh fuel in and then rang like a bag of crap

I have pulled the 5 plugs as I cant find my other socket at the moment, they are all heavily fouled to be be expected really.

I have RG installed and working, not sure how I managed that but I did, however I have absolutely no idea what I am looking at, I have saved a log fil of it cranking over before the batttery started to die, not sure if that is of any use to anyone? I need to get the other plugs out and cleaned up, check the static timing, then see how it goes from there

Right I've got it cleaned up now, it's throwing one fault code
Tune resistor is busted, but would that be the issue? I'm aware it works with the lambda sensors, but beyond that I have no idea.

I assume, as I'll need to replace it anyway, providing the tolerances of the resistor is the same they're readily available?
