Considering making my own version of the ACT cherry bomb system. Does anyone happen to know what outside diameter bodies they use and an approximate length? It seems that I can readily buy 3.5" outer diameter with 2" inlets from the likes of profusion, but the ACT ones look more like 3"? Also considering a shorter version at say 9" for extra grunt, would this be too loud?

Any info would be appreciated.

I forgot to take a measurement of the length but would be about 14 inches long.

Thanks for this, just what I needed. Out of curiosity, where did you get your silencers from and how loud is it?

Bizarre this, you want yours louder and I'm keen to take mine back to standard, no idea what's been done but listening to them on You Tube, mine sounds a cross between sleeved (what ever that is) and cherry bombs, awful in my opinion, they sound spluttery and rough, I think the original exhaust note is prefect and not so load when you start up at 5 in the morning to go to work when i live in a quiet area, I inherited something not nice when I bought it unfortunately, but each to their own i guess

My current one has cherry bombs tack welded inside the silencer box. I was going to experiment by removing the skin of the box but keeping the ends where the mounting brackets are and fully welding two new cherry bombs in. I’m not looking for a huge gain, just has no sound until you get up to 3000rpm and 3/4 throttle. I was probably going to go 2” or 4” shorter than what I have, in combination with changing from Clive F sports to cat to his decat Y piece. I know many people like the ACT cherry bomb version, but can’t really justify buying it when I can have the same result for 200 quid.

Nothing wrong with wanting quieter, I’m sure that will be me at some point in the future.

Yeah, I'm just old, love the logic in doing things as efficiently as possible, I wince at the markup with certain things rather than a realistic, fair cost, so good on you, i like try to work things myself first!

You can get all sizes of Cherry Bomb here: https://www.cherrybomb.co.uk/ . They'll also custom make systems up for your car, They've done systems for two of my TVR's and made a great job of them.

Cherrybomb still exist? Oh my lord! I remember strapping one of those to my Vauxhall Nova as a youth. I thought it made my 1.2 sound like an F1 car, but it probably didn't. It was flipping loud though. A TVR would be biblically raucous through a pair of those!
