Mk3 headlight conversion - parts
Discussion
I'm mulling over the idea of a Mk3 light conversion on my '98 Mk2 Chim.
Surface and Design seem to have closed, but I see that both Central TVR and Sportmotive continue to offer this for around £1200 all in. However, I've been thinking about sourcing the parts and then once I've put them all together, either having a crack at installing the completed pods myself or getting a bodyshop to do the final fitment if I don't feel up to it.
In terms of what I think I'd need -
- Headlamp pods - these can be purchased from Central TVR or perhaps I could contact Fiberon who may make these too
- Headlamp lenses - these seem to be available in either clear or smoked finishes - just down to personal preference I guess
- Headlamp unit - this is where I get a bit lost - what is the spec for this?
- Paint the pods to match the car colour - as this is only visible behind the lens, I was thinking a few light coats of spraypaint would suffice?
Has anyone pieced this together from the various places or is it just a no brainer to get the painted (or unpainted) kit from Central TVR or somewhere similar?

I did. But you very much don't want to follow my example. However, I used Fiberon for the pods and perspex. Really good to deal with.
From there I spent the thick in of a grand on lights, 3d printed shroud and a full respray. But if a sledgehammer to crack a walnut.
Have you looked at Steve Edwards lights, a more straightforward job and possible to do without paint.

Ah yes I've seen some pictures of your conversion and it looks amazing.
Re. Steve Edwards, he did pop up in the search results, but the message on his site states:

I am looking to do the same when I get my car painted at local classic restorer so I would want him fitting the parts as part of the job. When I looked at lights I was going to take the opportunity to fit some 7" LED specific upgrades I'd seen on the facebook group which had the look of classic incandescent ones, but were brighter and road legal as they were designed for LED. They didn't look 100% like originals but were pretty close and the difference I felt could be hidden behind a lightly smoked cover.
