Hi guys,

Long time lurker on these TVR threads and now that I finally own one thought it best to finally sign up and get advice.

I am in South Africa and am having a lot of difficulty sourcing parts. I am doing an overhaul of my Chim that stood in storage for 7 years before I got my paws on it.

I have reached the task of refreshing gaskets and the only place I can source gaskets is online. I have found 2 sets on a UK site [OEM and aftermarket] and am just not 100% if these are the correct sets for my car. I have contacted their sales department with a reply saying they don't know if it is suitable for my TVR.

Perhaps you guys could tell me if they are suitable or not.

I am not sure how fond mods are of posting links here so I will post a description.

My TVR Chim is a standard 400 Serp with the 10 head bolts [engine number: 37A40P air conditioned]

The product descriptions are:

OEM kit:
OEM quality equivalents of the following part numbers:-

GEG436UPRATED x 2 - V8 Rocker Cover Gasket (Rubber)
ERR7306 x 1 - Composite Inlet Man Gasket
ERR7283 x 2 - Inlet Manifold Seal
LVB500030 x 2 - Head Gasket V8 95 On
ERR6733 x 4 - V8 Exhaust Manifold Gasket
ERR2429 x 1 - Thermostat Gasket V8
ERR1782 x 16 - Valve Stem Oil Seal Neoprene Type 94
ERR4077 x 1 - Water Pump Gasket 95

They do state that the part numbers are for reference only.

2 questions:
-Is this kit suitable for my engine?

-The aftermarket parts are quite a lot cheaper but list same parts and reference numbers. Is it a very bad idea to go aftermarket with gaskets.

If more info is needed to help answer, please go ahead.

I have a family friend that will bring the parts when he comes to visit in a couple of weeks so am frantically looking for gaskets but don't want to buy the wrong stuff.

Thanks in advance,
PB

Someone who actually knows will no doubt post on here, but the ERR numbers look like original RV8 codes from Rover vehicles, so could be fine.

Have you looked at the TVR specific suppliers?
Motaclan
Racetech Direct
TVRSSW
for example

I'm not sure what sort of prices you are getting, though if you're sending them to a UK address the availability should be good either way.

Hey Pablo,

I had a set in my basket at motoclan yesterday morning and was just confirming that the guy coming to visit could bring it with. By the time I got online to order it it was out of stock. I did message them enquiring about new stock but haven't heard back.

The sets I am referring to in my original post are from Rimmer Bros. Looks like the same set that I found at Motoclan.

Shipping from UK to SA is hellishly expensive and I don't trust any systems this side. Have had crap go AWOL before hence my rush to get it to my connection in the UK.

Thanks for replying, I am sure someone will stumble across this post and be kind enough to advise accordingly.

This forum has helped me with everything I have had to do on my Chim and this is the first time I have had to ask. Amazing knowledge base.

Cheers,
PB

It will usually specify oem or aftermarket, id go for oem every time. 2 places ive bought from include Turner engineering and real steel.
The well known engine builders may be worth asking too such as Powers and V8 Developments.

This entirely.
Did Tvr use different head gaskets from standard Rover ones on the 4.0 does anyone know?
I’d use Powers Performance personally as they know exactly what to use. Might be slightly more expensive but buy once and all that.
They tend to have stock for there own engine rebuilds and will get them sent out fast.
