Clacking calipers

Hi,

Many years ago now I overhauled my Chimaera, a part of this was replacing the Sierra breaks with something a little better. I purchased a kit from here, I think its a re-branded Hi-Spec kit. it's great.

However, many years and about 1,000 miles later it's making a clacking noise. like a racehorse doing a burnout on a cobbled street.

It's the pads being loose inside the calliper. On cars of the past that I have had, with a similar design, they have a little clip that sits on top of the pads, wedged in between the pins. this setup doesn't seem to have any clips to keep the pads still.

Should it have? If so, whare can I get them?

CRC Disc Brake Quiet is what I have used/still use on my AP four pots with no clip system, and my Willwoods (again with no clips) remove it and re-apply at service times, TBH there are lots of similar versions. A@

Ahh... So it might just be how they are insted of having a missing part?

What pads are they?
Maybe the fitment is crap which can be the case on some.

My thoughts are that Ford stuff is near bullet proof...but you can have things that are missing. Post pictures. A@

Good shout... when i got the kit it came with some pads that didnt have the corect sweep area on the disk, the guy selling them replaced the pads with somthing else. i guess it could just be bad fitment. I will see if i can get better pics of the pads and fitment.

None OE, I would firstly go back to seller for the correct fitting kit or CRC Disc Brake Quiet (or similar). A@

Are you missing the wire retaining clips as per this pic?

You are my hero! Thats exactly what i have and yes, im missing the retaining clips. Do they come with new pads? (I wouldnt expect so)

As Belle427 found they look to have come from HiSpec rather than from the pad manufacturer. This is a pic of the set as I received mine. I think my pads came separately Clips are in the little bag on the left.

For info I opted for the Mintex fast road pads which I think are MGB576 M1144 Hans recommended those or Ferodo DS2500 over the other options and I've been very happy with them. None of the fade I used to get with the original setup when pressing on. Although I suspect that had more to do with the brake fluid refresh than anything else.

Buy two sets of those clips… look around for a small bag like the one above and you might already have them.

I had a look for the bag of parts, but it's long gone. I'm reasonably sure it never existed. oh well.

I have parts on order from HiSpec, let's hope they are the right bits. Damn expensive for a bit of an old coat hanger.

All fixed. i just need to dig it out of the garage and drive it now.
