I've had my Chimaera since '97 but somehow forgotten the purpose of the small dial/ knob below the indicator stalk control to the left of the wheel. It is about 1cm in diameter. I'm guessing it isn't crucial , after 26 years of driving it.

Dims the lights on the instrument panel. (Well it does on mine!)

It's the delay for the variable intermittent wipers.

There's several buttons and dials on mine that I've no idea of their function.

Possibly broken because pressing and twiddling doesn't seem to do anything.

A nice range of possibilities! I turned it & nothing fell off. The dash lights did not change in intensity. AI (!) told me it was a manual choke, which I think is wrong ( late '94 model).
Maybe it is the intermittent wiper speed.

Correct, a rare piece of modernism in our cars (and very convenient too). From memory I think this is faster when turned to the front and slower to the rear.
