4.0 HC engine mods recommendations

What mods would you all recommend I do before getting a stock 4.0 HC remapped? (The car is stock apart from precats being removed)
I was thinking of the following:
Ported inlet manifold
Ported trumpet base
72mm plenum
New more modern injectors
Possibly new cylinder heads from V8 developments warrior or torque master spec.

Think you pretty much have it covered, V8D are good at what they do and worth a call to discuss it.
Warrior heads, stealth cam and the 3 stage ported intake etc is a good package.
Just decide on your aims as you will probably spend circa £5k doing the top end work to gain around 50 bhp, you could almost get near a nicely built 4.6 for a bit more.

Not inc modified cylinder heads your first suggested
Ported inlet manifold
Ported trumpet base
72mm plenum
New more modern injectors
Will do nowt on their own
and I do mean nowt , unless used with decent spec cylinder heads, far bigger mods are in order to benefit your suggested or as already suggested above bigger displacement, the later being more cost effective long term

What mileage is the engine, if High add new bottom end shells too.

1.5K sounds cheap for good heads and what about a roller cam while your at it
Sensibly just get a bigger CC engine then do all this and your looking 330-350 bhp which is far more than the 225 of a standard 4.0 lump and then well worth investing in the mapping costs.

I think the less RV8 are used in sports the more these ported heads prices are stabilising or even reducing so yeah that’s cheap for what your getting. I don’t know how many more or other ways I can say it.

54,000 it’s probably worth checking big ends at least.
If your buying heads it makes sense to change the cam for one suited to the heads and I’d personally change vernier timing gear while your there.
Slippery slope but if your compression is good then no need for rings.
You didn’t really explain what state your engines in so spending 2/3k on these upgrades begs those questions before spending any money.
If the engines strong and your just after getting a bit more from it heads are where you’ll find it.
If 25/30 Hp is enough then those upgrades you mention should provide it.
If your thinking of having the Lucus CUX re mapped by Joolz then I’d ask him what’s the wisest cost effective way to achieve the power level you desire.

Can you check big ends without engine or block removal? I guess you can do it from underneath by removing the sump

With the 4 litre you've pretty much got to go all-in or not at all in terms of performance increase. This is because they have the smallest valves and intake of the range. So .. if you put big valve heads on with larger intake ports you'd be foolish not to add the ported inlet / trumpet base.
Don't go for the 72mm plenum, the more I see of them the less I like them, and only needed if you are pushing the numbers north of 300hp.
Don't forget that with NA tuning you are only going to improve things where the std setup is restrictive, so at low revs you won't see any changes at all .. it will all be upper mid range / top end. It will make it feel more sporty in terms of revving to the limiter, but your best money will always be spent with more CCs.

Back in the day, ie when they were current and shortly afterwards, there was much debate about the differences between a 4.0 and a 4.0HC, with various views / opinions. I can't recall the precise answer now but the view then was that a genuine HC had a higher lift cam, polished ported heads, different pistons and a TVR-specific ECU.
What a car has 20-years later might be different.

It would exceed performance of the 4.6 IMO Alun but you would need to work it , this route isnt cheap however ....... but what is?
