97 Chim 15"/16" Options
Discussion
Cheers all!
Sorry to bring up what I am sure has been an old topic, but does anyone know any options for wheels on this car? It seems the bolt pattern and offset are a problem over on this side of the pond!
What I gather is factory specs are: Front 15", 4x108, et 25, 7J, Rear 16", 4x108, et 33, 7.5J?
Like the later wheels for the car but none seem readily available,? Have new tires so not real interested in buying again!
Have seen pictures of many nice wheels but not been able to track any down over here. Fancy the spoked design, but open to options!
Appreciate the help!!!
Best,
Chuck

4 x 108 is the standard PCD for a lot of Ford vehicles over here (presumably the same in the US?) if 2nd hand is OK but it's the staggered offset that becomes the problem.
If you find a set that have the right ET for the rear, you'll need spacers on the front. If they're right (or close enough) for the front, they'll sit further out on the rear. Those who change tend to go up to 17" wheels with even 18" on the rear to get a better choice of the correct speed rating tyres too.
You may have to approach an alloy wheel manufacturer who produces them with 4 x 108 PCD to give you 2 wheels with one offset, and two with another. A couple of mm either way would not be a problem, and spacers of a few mm would not require longer bolts either, up to 5mm IMHO.
8" wide wheels on the rear is not a problem rather than the original 7.5"

I think it would be fair to say your options are very limited and probably more so in the states with the stud pattern being a 4 stud with different offsets and rim sizes.
Your options as I see it are to find a manufacturer who will make you a custom set, change the hubs to another pattern, or do what some did and go up in wheel size to 17 or possibly 18 inch rims. You may also find something on eBay UK
If you troll through the Pistonheads archive using google you may find a manufacturer and any further information you may need
Here’s a link below to get you started but beware it’s 53 pages long starting in 2008 through to 2022.

Many Thanks!
On the et, how much variation is acceptable?
Trying to stay with the current tires as new.
Yes, a Ford pattern, but not much of a selection so far!
Best,
Chuck
The Et on the rear is 33mm but some wheels used are 35, this would be OK. Otherwise it may just take some trial fitting. On the et, how much variation is acceptable?

The last Chimaeras in 2001/02 had 16" wheels all round but I'm unaware if the ET on the front wheels is the same as the previous ones. Possibly so, because fitting a 7.5" wheel on the front (therefore 13mm wider) would be disguised by the ET now being 33 instead of 25.

Hi,
I installed new rims, because i wanted to drive Michelin Pilot Sport.
I got my griffith with original Estoril wheels (front 7x15 et 25, rear 7,5x16 et35)
I sized up 1 inch in front and rear diameter.
Now i have Autech Wizzard for front axle in 7x16 et25 with 205/45R16 87W pilot sport 3.
The rims are for "corsa E" and will fit with plastic adapters at wheel centering, because the rims have 65,1mm.
Product number W7016254051526
At the rear axle i installed 7,5x17 et45 with 10mm spacers and 235/45R17 97Y pilot sport 4.
The rims are for Ford fiesta.
Product number W7517454054326
Also installed 10 mm longer studs at rear axle to compare the spacers.
In addition this setup will save around 9 kilo in weigth (3 at each front, 1,5 at rear wheel)
I checked all the weigths before installation.
This modification is completly street legal in Germany and i got no trouble with TÜV(MOT).
best regards

These are TVR OEM wheels from the first Tuscan can,t just remember which race track they were named after but might be an option. There were alot knocking around at handy money, the only downside is that you would need to change the hubs to 6 stud but either way 6 stud might be a cheaper option than custom made wheels
