Coolant bubbling up on opening
Discussion
Cause for concern. I had this.
Was a result of a very slight crack in the lining which resulted in the cooling system slowly pressurising (from the cylinders)when driving.. to the point that after 150-200 miles driving it would vent coolant when hot, and remain pressurised after driving even days later- such that if I opened the resevoir- it would bubble out
Was all sorted with an engine rebuild from Dom and his team.
You might be luckier than me.. eg a gasket etc

I had the same on my 350i. It was the head gasket leaking between the bore and water jacket giving the same result. This is a common issue on loads of cars and is just an age and mileage issue. I don't know if Chimaera's suffer particularly from cracked liners? but I have had a lot of V8 Rover engines over the years in old Rovers, Land Rovers, etc and I haven't come across it before. I hope it is just a head gasket!!
I bought a kit from Amazon which you can use to detect exhaust gas bubbling in the coolant. It starts with blue liquid and if exhaust gas is detected then it goes yellow......
