Drove about 6 mile and parked up for approx 45 min. Struggled to start car on return and 10 mins later whilst riving at 50 - 60 mph and car just cut out. Engine would turn over but not fire. About 10mins and car started., Drove home ok. ( 10 min )
Ordered 2 x relays for footwell ( rats nest ) Should i be looking at Ignition Module also ?. . Any advice please

Worth checking the basics such as coil connections, distributor cap and rotor but you need to see if you have a spark when it fails to start really to give you an idea of what your missing.

Thanks for that. Ignition module ordered, hoping this was the issue last year and not the coil. If issue is still there (cuts out ) will check further

It’s better to not go all gung ho replacing multiple parts at the same time as you can end up in a worse position.
Aftermarket modules etc are not the quality they once were so just be careful.

Ok, thanks for that. I`ve had the car 8 yrs and not really a problem until late last year when i replaced the coil, maybe i replaced the wrong part. Anytime
i order parts i go to Racetec so hopefully reliable parts received. From what i find on threads is it possible the ignition module is overheating ?

Could be but it’s not uncommon to hear of faulty Bosch coils either.
Ignition spares are a bit of a minefield to be honest even from a specialist.

A lot of issues like this can sometimes be traced back to the rotor arm failing. Does it still have the original lucas one or has it at any time been changed for a cheap Chinese patern one with a rivet in it. Happened to mine but luckily kept the lucas one. Refitted it and all OK.

There's a big difference between the £4.95 pretend Chinese lucas ones and a genuine one which if you can find one there about £25 to £30.

Supposed to be good for rotors and caps.

Forgot to mention if you need to crank the engine a few times to check for a spark while you are diagnosing the fault remove one of the terminals on the fuel pump because the RV8 floods really easily.

When the engine cut out, did everything go off? If all the instruments died too, it may have been the immobiliser. Have you had the failure to even crank when trying to start the car (usually when hot), the first symptom of a worn immobilser?

My car (Griffith, but with the same, original Meta system) completely cut out twice, the second time at 50 mph and everything went off. frown Since changing the alarm and immobiiser, I've had no problems.

You need to confirm spark of fuel failure here scratchchin if you need to isolate fuel for cranking purposes etc then just unplug resistors next to coil (small black blocks with a female spade each end) which ironically need to be checked for connection terminal security and condition too rolleyes I have witnessed green/corroded ones causing int hot running failure as in fuel pump going offline due to said corrosion/continuity issue

Try also without the plug extenders, they are prone to fail.

Check your battery conections are tight. Seen a few similar threads recenly end up as the fault being loose terminals

I've had an intermittent starting issue recently. When I turn on the ignition I was getting no fuel pump priming when it failed. When I checked the terminals on the relay where corroded.

If anyone is searching for a replacement relay with the original part number I was only finding silly priced ones and or 2nd hand. The replacement from Bosch is now 0986AH0602 I managed to get one for just less than a tenner.
