I need to replace the air flow meter on my '98 400 chimaera.
There's an older chat that gives part number as ERR5198.

A quick google brings up a few reasonably priced ones from Landrover sites:

Was advised by someone who understands all that clever dicky electronics stuff to be very wary of cheap after market afu's!

I bought a Britpart one a few months ago, seems OK and is in use every day. Whichever one you do get I recomend fitting some kind of heat shielding to it.

Don't buy any cheap aftermarket crap like above waste of money and if you get running problems you'll end up chasing your tail. Buy Bosch, Febi etc and don't be fooled by old reputable names like Lucas which is just rebranded Chinese ste.

I’d agree, maybe someone will have a good oem used for you.
Are you happy you have tested the existing one and it’s the culprit?

I had a look at the bosch ones but couldn't tie up the parts number, and all the ones i found were black plastic not metal.
I've gone with the RacingGreen one.

The 3AM was made by Hitachi and the Lucas 5AM was the replacement. They are pin for pin and voltage compatible although you wont see many 3AMs around these days. There do appear to be multiple aftermarket copies of the Lucas unit around these days and Im sure the quality will vary and I'm not aware of new Lucas units being available but even if they are badged as such its a name only unit. Considering the number of Range Rover Classics out there Id hope that any quality problems on the copies would have been identified and acted on by the major parts suppliers. You certainly wont find any Bosch units unless you want to do the upgrade and rechip the ECU to recalibrate the airflow characteristics.

Things to look out for after fitting a copy unit are poor idle and possible high fuel trims especially when hot. The AFM has a really hard time so near the exhaust and copies may not be as robust as the original Lucas unit. Certainly worth putting some insulation around the body if you have any doubts.

Well the new AFM completely cured my idling and flat-spot problems smile

Does anyone have the part number of the bracket at the intake side, that also fixes to the bodywork to hold the AFM still?
I've got a temporary botch, but its not substantial enough for longterm.
Its needs to have a hole in it as the E2036 AFM has a locating pin on the flange where the bracket sits (just out of sight on the pic)

Contact a breakers or TVR bodywork experts or talk to the usual companies that replace ecu units for later tech options on TVR as they often keep the old parts.
They often have old stuff knocking about which they use when diagnosing issues with CUX equipped customer cars so maybe they might have an old bracket too.

Given the miracle that your new AFM works I’d be very reluctant to drive while it’s being held by a jubilee clip.

History has often suggested these newly built AFM are unreliable.
Please keep us informed over time with how yours works as I’m sure many owners would be interested in a decent replacement.
A heat sock seems like a very good idea as the original and these replacements AFM often suffer when hot.

I've tracked down the right bracket and it should arrive in the next few days. The jubilee clip is a very short-term measure as its quite flimsy.
Once i get the bracket fitted I've got a heat shield kit ready to go, as it does get really hot.

Hopefully I'll be able to get it all sorted at the weekend.

That's a very neat heat cover for the AFM - where did you get that please?
