Fixing stone chips on bodywork
Discussion
Like most TVR owners my chimp has suffered its fair share of stone chips - especially to the leading edge of the bonnet. I have just bought and tried a product called LANGKA with good results in concealing these. Use a touch up paint / laquer first to fill the chip area - then wait until till touch dry. Now flat down the paint ''blob'' in the chip area with this LANGKA substance and a soft cloth wrapped over a plastic card. This ''melts'' the touch up paint without affecting the rest of the paintwork and blends it in. Result is a much improved and better concealed stone chip repair without all of the blobiness of just using a touch-up paint by itself. My car is a pearlescent colour - but it has been a successful repair without too much effort. If I can just get a sunny day I will work my way around the entire car.
Any one else used this yet????????
Looks quite interesting.
I guess that Langka is just a rubbing compound and would work like T Cut. Its the method and timing used to apply the compound that is the trick. Normally, one would wait until the paint was fully dry but then you would remove old paint at the same time and not get a flat finish. While the paint is soft, rubbing compound will remove it very quickly, long before you start to attack the old paint.
I might be wrong here but when I get a stone chip I'm going to try the method with T Cut.
I couldn't say whether macca is right or wrong - i.e. is LANGKA just like T-cut? I expect only the manufacturers know! I don't think it is aggressive a 'polish' as T-cut, but if you have a bottle of T-cut, why not try it first is all I can say. The LANGA still seems to work on paint chips that I have touched up 6+ months ago without rubbing down the surrounding paint - all in all quite neat.
I got mine from a car restoration company called Frost Automotive. Check out their website at www.frost.co.uk - and have a look at some other products for keeping your car fresh that you would not find in Halfords. You can order a catalogue online too. I have bought their glass polishing kit to remove some light wiper scratches off of the windscreen - not tried it yet. The LANGKA is £15.00. (PS - I am in no way connected with Frosts - I just find them interesting in that they cater for classis car restoration).

I looked at Langka a couple of years back (didn't actually buy it though). It seems to work by using a different formula of paint to the bodywork. The rubbing down action dissolves the excess touch-up paint but doesn't affect the original bodywork paint. Voila, one chip filled with paint...
