digital odeometer failure>>>

My speedo has got a digital odeomter - was reading 40764 last night, this morning i started the car and its reset itself to 0 !!!!!!!! - anyone know why this would happen - does it use a battery backup to store the mileage??? also anyone know how i can get it back to reading it what it was. cheers Chris
