I have a 97 450 and the colour code is etched on a plate under 'body code' (found on the offside wing). Mine is R2815-2, which is Rosso Pearl and I believe refers to a number issued by the paint manufacturer (ICI in my case). Any bodyshop should be able to match the colour using this number. However, be careful - I had mine resprayed and although the code under the bonnet was correct it didn't refer to the right colour in the paintshop code database. They had to send my headlamp binnacle (or whatever you call it) to ICI for them to confirm the colour code. This backed up a query that I had on a mismatch at the rear. The car had received minor repairs in the past and whoever painted it got the wrong shade but couldn't be @rsed to put it right 'cause it was such a small area (why the previous owner accepted it I will never know).
