Well, only two bits really. When I bought the car seven years ago the interior was in pretty good shape. The exception was the two pieces of vertical carpet to the rear of the doors, which cover the door solenoids works. It seems a previous owner forced something in behind the seats which was just too wide for the space. Both carpet pieces therefore have damage to them. (Yes, I know it's taken a long time to sort this out, but life gets in the way.)

I have now ordered and received replacement parts from D&C Trim. And very nice they are too. All I have to do is fit them.... A quick inspection shows that the rear hood section will need to come off to do the job and this is where the fun starts. Any hints or tips, do's or don'ts to remove and replace the hood gratefully recieved. Then there appears to be a pop-rivet holding the door seal in place wher it turns horizontal and tucks under the hood, which will need to be drilled out and replaced.

It's a '98 car and I've read posts about shutting your wife in the boot, holding a spanner, etc. Is it really all that difficult, or are some folk over-reacting? It certainly looks like a two man (or woman) job. All to replace a couple of pieces of carpet.... confused Well, yes, I guess it's a TVR.

I'm sure some one out there has been through this, so I'm trying to absorb previous knowledge before I cock something up!

I replaced the carpets in my Griff back in 2011 and did a write-up with pictures. Virtually the same as the Chim, so if interested let me have an email address to send a zip file on to. (Unfortunately support for my email address associated with this PH account has been discontinued and you can't change it - yes PH know!)

Thanks David, emil received and opened. That's a really helpful guide, just what I was looking for. Thanks very much. You certainly made a very smart job of your re-trim. Very imprssive sir. thumbup

Now I just need to set aside a day to do this simple job! hehe

In my case I will also have to remove the battery, which is relocated in the boot, in the way of the access panel. All doable but quite a job to simply replace two pieces of carpet! Winter project.

I know the piece you are replacing.
Mine was frayed (on a Griff') where the door trim traps it near the locking access.

I pulled mine out and recut it along its edge where it follows the door opening and in my case it only needed tidying up. The long tapered section that runs up the side of the seat belt mount was hard to stuff back in but I didn't remove the rear hood collar, I removed the seat belt anchor and eased it back into place by peeling back the carpet which was now exposed. Once in you can't see it.
There was a self tapper holding my door seal in place and I think I only removed one roll hoop pivot and spacer.

Interesting alternative Lance, worth considering as I'm not touching the rest of the carpet.

So do you know if the pop-rivets which secure the velcro (for the hood sides) also trap this piece of carpet? If not, then the pop-rivets don't need to be disturbed and the stuffing method, with top seat belt bolt removed, might be the way to go.

On my Griff the carpet across the rear bulkhead which is under the rear collar, extends with a narrow stip to the rool hoop covering the said carpet. The section of carpet I removed, trimmed, glued and moved forward a bit so it went under the door seal again didn't go under the velcro strip.

Chim' along with it's removed carpets went in May so I can't compare between the two models.

Thanks again Lance, useful intel. I think my Chimaera should be the same. Could turn a major job into a smaller job. I'll certainly try this forst. thumbup

Pierre! If you need a helping hand (I know nothing of spannering but can hold a carpet up) then let me know. I'll pop round. JM

PS. I have a hammer.

Apologies for the thread hijack, some months/years ago there was a thread regarding someone changing the colour of their carpets. (Green I think it was).
Anyone point me in the right direction or give me an up to date on the best stuff to use and how to do it please. Thanks

Judging by my house, if you want to go to red wine coloured carpets, I can just send my wife and her sisters round.
One evening should do the entire job..... getmecoat
