I didnt realise (maybe im just thick), that antifreeze reduces the colling capability of water - infact water on its own has TWICE the thermal ability of 50/50 water and antifreeze. This explains why my engine is running hotter sinces it service - they have stuck a 50/50 mix in whereas before it was about 60/40. You only need about 20% antifreeze to stop corrosion, and in this country (especially in the summer) i dont think you need more than that to stop freezing. I think i may dilute my coolant a bit as in this current heatwave my car is running V.hot and the fans are running permanently.
