Just over a week now since picking up my 97 P 4.0l with 12K on the clock. As suggested, I''ve tried normal unleaded fuel but the engine seems a little lumpy and ''jerky'' at low revs. Is this normal and should I just revert to Super Unleaded? Expensive though!! Also, oil. Is Mobil the recommended oil to use? Thanks for any advice, Lee (Guildford)
If you've just spent £xxK on a car, and are probably going to be spending £2K a year on servicing/tyres etc, why are you trying to save £3 on a tank of fuel and have the car underperforming? Just go Super and be done with it. Neil

I have spoken to a lot of people from the trade and have found from my own experience that M1 is too thin. Ihave been advised to use a 10/40 mineral for 2/3000 miles to deglaze the rings/bores then revert to 10/40 synthetic, I use Texaco F3. Already the oil consumption has gone from 3/500 miles a litre to 1000 miles a litre, no soot on the back of the car and the oil stayed clear longer

Ive been using Comma 5-40. Happy enough with the oil etc, but I reckon that I use about 5 litres in 6000 miles.

Just to stir thing up...I used to run my 4.0l engine on premium and noticed no difference at all from super and never had a problem with pinking. It may well be another story with 4.5-5.0l engines but with a 4.0 I'd save the money.

Nope, my 4.5 is quite happy on standard but I only put it in every 3rd tank or so. Somehow, saving £3 a tank makes you feel better
