Hi all, My waranty is about to run out so I want to make sure I get everything fixed now. When I change up to 5th at high revs (well, 4K) it has a tendancy to graunch which I don''t get in any other gear (''cept reverse!) I''ve got a 97P 500 so it has the Borg Warner box with I gather the dodgy 5th gear. Anyone else had a problem? Should I get it checked out? Cheers

Common guys, you're starting to get me worried here ! I have a 97P 500, but I don't seem to have any of these problems (yet ?). What sort of mileage are we talking about on your beasts then ? Phil

I'm now at 30k and everything is fine. In fact its a very well sorted car (by TVR standards), only really had a few problems with the manifolds. Simple question really, but are you sure there's enough oil in the gearbox ?

Well it just came back from it's 36K service so I hope so. It's not bad, but you do have to be gentle going into 5th (only 5th). I remember reading that 5th gear can just break with no warning in the Borg Warner boxes, so I'm just a bit nervous.

My 2000W Chimaera 500 Borg Warner box 5th gear selector gave up the ghost at 5500 miles (see 'cannot select 5th gear' topic). Just had a brand new gearbox fitted on Friday - supplied free of charge by TVR even though the the car is 18 mths old. Fernhurst fitted it within 1h30mins - the guys obviously work part time as the Ferrari pit crew.

Hi, I have that exact problem. So what did they fix and how much did it cost? I asked Fernies to take a look at the 5th gear while it was still under warantee but they couldn't notice anything wrong (yeah, right!) Cheers

Oops. I just took mine in for its service and lo and behold... the clutch arm is about to break, just like Vyt's did. So the symptoms match and the cure matches. May be useful for others to know. At least they're thorough I'm glad to say.

My clutch is making a weird noice. Sounds like its creaking when I press it, usually at low revs or going from neutral to 1st and 2nd. Not sure if the clutch arm just needs oiling, but it sounds like it's something underneath the car...? - ChimaeraWolf - P56 SAH - Black Chimaera 4.0
