Can someone tell me the correct size of tyres for my 4.0l Chimaera, I have 15" x 7j front and 16" x 7.5j rear. I have seen various postings showing various depths of profiles which range from 45 to 60. Going by the hand book the fronts are 205/60 ZR and rear 225/55ZR. Thanks Brian

TVR used several sizes (I think the 4.5 and 5.0L data will be on their website since these models are still in production). 205/60 and 225/55s were one original size for the 4.0L. I, and a number of other people have moved to the 5.0L sizing of 225/50 upfront and 245/45 on the rear (std wheels). No fouling etc. and nearly too much grip for a measly 4.0L engine. Trefor/.

Thanks for that Trefor, I will go with the larger sized tyres. I suppose the next question is do you know where I can get a good deal on these tyres. Cheers Brian

see under "tyres-prices" in "TVR general", Ted it looks like we could do with a cross ref system

I think 'pre-power-steering-as-standard' 4.0l had the 205's. The pas made the wider 225's easier to move. Maybe !

My car has no power steering so it maybe that I should stick with the original size, otherwise I may not be able to get out of my parking slot. Or has anyone fitted the larger size to a Chimaera with no power steering and still finds it ok to drive? I have been quoted for the larger size 225-50-ZR15 £123 and the 245-45-ZR16 £145 this is inclusive of VAT fitting and balancing, is this a good quote? Brian

Weirdly, I've stuck with 205/50/ZR15s on the front of my PAS Chimaera 4l -- mainly because of the issue Trefor raises. I found that with 225s in the front, the car oversteers (more grip at the front, y'see) while with 205s on the front and 245s on the back, I get good balanced handling.

Thanks everyone, so what is the best combination or is it just a personal preferance? I would rather find out before buying the tyres as they arn't cheap. Anyone got a good supplier? Brian

Brain - you have a point about PAS. I have PAS so didn't even think about the weight on the steering. It appears Manek has road tested 205s on the front with with 245s on the rear for you! Where to buy? Micheldever down the M3, Bracknell tyres and Slough tyres (Farnham Road) all do a similar price. Someone told me Slough tyres were part of the same group as Micheldever but I'm not sure that's true. Weather looks great, must get out 'n about now! Trefor/.

LTC tyres ( stourbridge ) £160 a pair for the 205's, £185 the pair for the 225's. That was last year though :/
