Haven't had my Chimaera for long and have just consulted the handbook re tyre pressures. It says 22lbs front and 24lbs back, but these are for 205/60/15 and 225/55/16 tyres respectively. I have the original wheels, but it appears someone has gone for slightly lower profile tyres at some point, so that I have 205/55/15 on the front and 225/50/16 on the back. Does anyone know how (if at all) I should adjust the pressures? Edited by cockers on Thursday 14th June 12:23 Edited by cockers on Thursday 14th June 12:23

I believe 22-24psi all round is the recommended pressure for all the Chimaera tyre combos. I have 24psi in mine and it's got 225/55 and 245/45s on.

One EXPERT leading another. To stay within the law consult the tyre manufacturer or his agent the supplier, altering the tyre profiles does effect handling consierably !!!!!!!!

So apart from abuse what else can you add to the thread?

Wassup with you Gamekeeper? I commented on what I believe the TVR manual tells you, i.e. the manufacturers data. My tyre sizes are std TVR fitment for the Chimaera 5.0L. Cocker's sizes are TVR std too. What's more important on a TVR than anything is not to fit something like a P6000/Eagle F1 in place of the OEM recommended Bridgestones. T/.

Exactly who are you flaming off at gamey? And why? And since when have tyre manufacturers been the fount of all knowledge for the correct pressure for a particular car? Have you *ever* had tyres fitted that have been correctly inflated by the "tyre manufacturer or his (sic) agent the supplier"? No, nor have I.

Despite the nominal width implied by the tyre specification, there is actually very little difference in the width of the contact patch between 205/7J and 245/7.5J - this may be why TVR recommend the same pressure for the various sizes. The tyre pressure does make a huge difference to the grip characteristics but there is no one perfect pressure - it all depends on the road conditions, tyre temperature, suspension setup and how the driver wants the car to handle. BUT it is absolutely *vital* that you have the same pressure side-to-side, and the rear should be the same pressure as the front, or up to say 2psi higher. Getting the left/right match and fron/rear balance right is essential, getting the right absolute pressure really doesn't matter that much. Generally I find lower pressures work better in colder and wetter conditions and higher pressure work better in very grippy conditions. But don't get too silly - I'd stick to somewhere round 22/44 or 24/26 for normal road use and suggest an absolute minimum of 20 psi (cold) and an absolute maximum of 30 psi (cold). Cheers, Peter Humphries (and a green V8S)
