My 98 12k Starmist Blue Chim is getting tatty with stonechips round the nose and wing mirrors showing off the contrasting white undercoat/composite. Naturally the touchup blobs fall out after every polish which = every wash due to the residue left by hard water. So time for a front end respray; having finally stopped laughing at a dealer quote any recommendations for resprays in the London/Hants/Berks area ?

Try Liphook Coachworks, on the Hants boarder, I don't have their number to hand but directory enquiries should have it.

I know of several people who haven't been over-impressed with Liphook. Try Bee Gees in Chessington - they have an excellent reputation. Number is in www.oilypages.com

I used Specialised Paintwork in Caversham, near Reading (Henley side). Good jobs on both my Chimaera and 'er Black TT. They do lots of plastic cars (mainly Lotus). Trefor/.

And then an interesting plan B comes to mind; do the Zertec 2 lamp gas discharge headlight upgrade and get the pods blended in during fitting - apparently inclues a free front end respray. Mmmmm, money.

I have a couple of dealer quotes to do the whole front end (nose, bonnet, wings and mirrors) at £750 plus vat for labour and materials.

Our front end respray for metallic and solid colours is 775.50 inc VAT (+150 for pearlescent). This is both wings, nosecone and bonnet, i.e. everthing forward of the doors. It also includes seamlessly blending in of our headlamp kit. The cost of the kit is separate and depends on the lights that you specify. BTW the Zertec kit is the original... Watch this space for details of a full respray at a good price. I've got the first pictures back of my bonnet and boot lid - they look fantastic!! The rest gets painted tomorrow and I should get the car back Saturday.

Got my Chim back today after a full respray. Difficult colour, Rosso Pearl, but they got it right. Cost £1057.50 inc vat. Nice job! They didn't do inside the doors but they did the sills. No orange peel effect in the paintwork - very smooth, like glass. Scuffs in Lincoln, plan to open all around the country. Big outfit with clean premises and all the right kit. I would use them again. They even e-mailed pictures showing preperation and spraying.

Do you have to have a full / half respray or can you do just a small area (ie about 30cm sq). The reason I ask is that some brainless oik (probably a Volvo or MPV driver) decided to re-design rear passenger side panel with a dirty great scratch that goes from about the rear light cluster level down to the bumper. It's going in for a service next week so I'm gonna ask the question then. Anyone know how much to expect?, hence is it worth an insurance claim or just a dent in the wallet. Or the third option which is to obtain CCTV images (if any) and hunt the bas&*d down and break their legs (oops, sorry about that!!) Steve

Thought I'd resurrect this old thread. If you read below you will see that my car was a Liphook and it was mentioned that people were unimpressed. Well just to add my tuppence worth. I would readily recommend them to anyone, they did a fantastic job on mine and were only too willing to bend over backwards to help in any way. Lee Snelling is the guy you want to speak to, they close at 6pm but due to work commitments we were there on several occasions later in the day sometimes not leaving until much later. Lee was happy to explain anything and everything about the work they were doing and was very patient with all my idiot questions. The standard of work was fantastic if a little longer than first estimated as we were waiting for parts from TVR, the paint is a perfect match too. Soon after we got it back the battery failed and we needed a new one, my dealer couldn't fit us in and we were speaking to Lee on another topic and he told me to get a battery and he would fit it for free, this was at 1 hours notice! Above and beyond the call of duty I feel. Also while I am here a mention for Fernhurst TVR who had the car in this morning to fit a new fanbelt and adjust the speedo under warranty for me, not only did they fix this they also fixed the door mirrors which had packed up 2 days ago and adjusted the passenger window so it sealed properly with the roof. Sorry to have rambled but I see so many complaints about companies/people on lists like this it is good to come here with some positive news!
