Does the above really matter, I have driven no pas cars on test drive and find them ok, but i havent tried to park one etc - hoe do they fare are they really hard work.. anyone got any thoughts on this..? r J

I have always had power steering, until I bought my TVR. At slow speed it is quite heavy, but I wouldn't say unmanagable. Above parking speed, you can't really notice the difference.

I've also always had PAS cars until I bought my Chim 4.5. And as everyone else says, above 2nd gear speeds its great (nice and positive) but parking does require you to be an eastern block weight lifter, also the lock / turnin circle is a bit poor. My other half is really into cars but the steering put her off driving mine (no great loss!) But who cares its great to drive, besides, I think we get sloppy at driving when we have PAS, ABS, cruise control etc. BTW, does anyone know how much the PAS option is? - Just curious really, I see it like air-con which you don't need if you have a soft-top!!

We drove lots of Chimaeras before we got ours, I firmly believe non-pas was the way to go. It feels much more positive and more surefooted on the road, the pas versions seemed to me to be a bit light when you really want the feedback in a car like a TVR. As for parking neither myself or my wife has any trouble the trick is to keep it moving as you turn the wheel even really slowly makes it easier, it really is difficult if the car is stationary as there is a lot of rubber contact to 'mash up'. I have to say I was surprised to choose non-pas as the company car has all the pas/abs/cruise/air-con/traction control etc. It is refreshing to get into something and actually have to drive the bloody thing!!!

Take a long drive in both and see which suits the driving you do (bear in mind the daily commute if you do one etc, etc). I was looking for non PAS but the car I ended up buying had it and now I would not be without it. This thread has been going on for years, with good reasons both for and against. The option is £1k from memory.

Comeon boyz and girlz.....PAS = extra weight....therefore less acceleration and less MPG (F=MA)....why did you buy a TVR...for fun, therefore ignore PAS - makes the car less responsive on track and road, thus you need to listen and look at the road surface more for fast cornering, etc. My newest is not to eat breakfast until I get to work, also removed both seats and replaced drivers seat with a cardboard box, taken out audio, gauges, spare wheel, tools, removed all carpets, drilled holes in the chassis and rims and body work (hey I've made a Tuscan!)............!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The racing Tuscans have PAS so I am told it has to be a good thing. I don't have it and chose not to. Rich...

Having had both (an early 4.3 without and a later 4 with) I would have to say that ps is the thing to have. There is no noticable degradation of feel & feedback with it and parking is sooooo much easier. Dunno about the aircon though

Jimmy: Everyone has an opinion. I think you'd better try em both. Although, after a certain date ( 97 I think ), PAS was standard ! I think what you have to consider, is if your a bloke or not. Oh yeah, PAS is an option you can show of to your mates, but does it increase the size of your cahoona's? I think not. Ps, my power assisted model is for sale :/
