How rare are they?

Mine came with them and not seen any others

Who's got them?

Both in one gauge? I'd say pretty rare...

If it's the old black rimmed ETB style then drop me an email and we'll do the folding beer token tango...

Oil *PRESSURE* is standard then - sure it wasn't oil temperature?

Voltmeter I've never seen on a Chim but I think it may have been a standard fitment on a Griff?

I got one from Speedycables. (Oil temp that is - I already have a volt gauge).
Be aware that the face is not identical to the TVR gauge even though it has "TVR" written on it.
-The numbers are slightly different (thinner)
-The marks are thinner as well.
-The pointer is pointier and thinner.
-The rear lighting is much brighter as the other gauges. (TVR clock has a 2W bulb)

I think you can discuss these points with them and they will match your other gauges (take a photo of your water temp gauge).

For installation:
There is a bung in the oil pump where the LR oil cooler was connected. You can use that for the temp sender. The bung is an M20 x 1.5 thread on serp engines and I think M18 on pre-serp (I have a serp, so I am unsure about the pre-serp).
Gauge sender comes with 1/8NPT, so get an adapter.

For the electrical installation you need to get ignition plus from the other gauges (it is the green wire). Black is the earth one which also earthes the light.
I don't have camera, so no pics.

Marvin

Doesn't the gauge provide a "live feed" that is then routed to the sender and the sender provides a variable resistance path to ground which is what the gauge registers? Otherwise there'd be an awful lot of switched lives floating around in there!!! biggrin

You don't need to match the sender to the gauge - you buy both matched from the same manufacturer.
There is only one wire from the gauge to the sender. The gauge sends a certain voltage to the sender and measures the current that is create. The sender body earths through the block.

I have them fitted to mine. Voltmeter is for a Griff which had them standard. The oil temp is a water temp with an oil can icon added - Caerbont will do this for you if you ask, they did mine.

I realise this is an old topic. However, I used to own a dark green Chimaera in the mid ‘90 which I had fitted with volt and oil temp gauges in the correct TVR style. These were additional to the existing gauges and were positioned next to speedo and rev counter, visible through the steering wheel. Wonder if it is still around: N reg with a 2 digit number, cream leather, walnut dash, serpentine engine, PS.

Mine was a 1995 4.0 HC.

It didn’t have a volt meter, but did have a auxiliary oil temperature gauge, (Stack), that I had fitted at RT Racing when they did the resto / fitted a new chassis.
