Chaps Just had my 4.0HC Chim on a rolling road, with new magnecor leads, plugs, dist cap etc. and all it could make was 170bhp at the wheels, this sounds a bit poor to me. Anyone agree or disagree and any suggestions ? but does run much smother !

remember you lose around 25% through the transmission! Which is about right for the 4.0, Although not for the HC. isn't the HC 280bhp? Does the HC engine badge look new

robm No badge isn't new, all points to an original HC. TVR say 275bhp for the HC but am told that 225 would be more like it. tvr power figures are a bit dodgy to say the least. but even 225 at the fly would still make mine rather low.

225 at the flywheel is 168 (ish) at the wheels, -25%. See teds dyno feature http://www.pistonheads.com/features/dyno.htm what was the tourque readings ?

my 96 4ltr showed 170 BHp at the wheels on Aldons rollers a while back, giving 220 ish at the flywheel, TVR quote 240 for the standard 4ltr so thats probably a true figure, so the same for an HC seems a little low.. Interestingly my Ap22 test metre comes up with a figure of 168 max bHP after 3 quick test runs. Rob you must come over and we will try it on yours..

At the end of the day its just a number. You could say 400 at the wheels but it would still drive the same. With the mixture/ignition optimised and engine parameters met what more can you do (from the standard engine)?
