Engine Stall & Cutout
Discussion
Yesterday I took the opportunity of fine weather to go for a spin in my 450
Initially I noticed a sharp swing in the rev counter needle of 500 revs but no change in the engine note. After 1/2 hour the car stalled at a couple of junctions but retarted .On the return after a gap of 3-4 hours for some shopping the same thing occurred but within 1/2 again it stalled and this time wouldn't start.
AA chap tried everything but after an hour he wiggled a few wires which run across the front of the engine and hey presto restart but stopped again .This time it needed recovering home.
This afternoon tried again and hey presto started first time.
Anyone had this before or got any ideas what it could e The car is less than a year old with 2300 miles on the clock ??
You need to plug a fault code reader in and run the car for a few miles to see if anything electrical is wrong. LR dealers have them as well as TVR dealers. Of course independents are the best IMHO.
Since your car sounds quite new I'd suggest the main dealer for a warrantied checkup.
I had a similar problem with my 99 4 litre Chimaera (although not the rev increase). On run down to the south coast (admittedly raining hard) the car started spluttering and after about 5 miles cut out. I left it for 5 mins it restarted but cut out again. AA came out, jiggled a few leads and it restarted but stopped after about 100 yds again. Then it wouldnt restart at all. It was towed to a main dealer who replaced the coil and its been fine since !
Thanks this confirms the info Ihad following a a call I made to David Hendry Cars this morning and they confirmed that they had run various tests and it had turned out to be the coil.
Surprising that a car less than a year old should have a faulty coil -something which is simply wound copper wire !!
