Let's plan an Atom Track day... any suggestions?
Discussion
Let's first agree a track - see here for a map:
www.uktrackdays.co.uk/index.php?page=/track/
Looks like a choice of five in the middle of the country - Silverstone; Bedford; Rockingham; Mallory; or Donnington. They're all good for the Atom! Purely selfishly, Bedford is great for me as I have mates who live nearby so I can sleep over and get to the track bright eyed and bushy-tailed. Actually, it might be cool if we grab a cheap B&B or hotel near a track the night before and then we can make a real event of it!
Then we need to choose a month - I suggest that the weather won't be good enough for an Atom day until March. According to UKTrackdays, there's Saturday 13th at Donnington with Bookatrack - who are excellent. How about that one as a season starter?

Can't say I'm keen on Donnington myself, I know it's a great track, but mine's really not got enough power for that circuit. Same will go for Silverstone I reckon.
Bedford was good fun last time, but is a bit pricey (esp. if you have a passenger) and a bit of hike for me.
I've not been to Rockingham yet, but I've heard it's good and is a manageable distance.
I tend to use EasyTrack for trackdays as they're well priced, well organised and pretty relaxed - they do usually book Rockingham, but they've not got any events listed there yet.
Mallory looks quite good - never been there so I don't know what it's like but distance wise looks good for me.
Incidentally, I reckon Cadwell would be mint sometime although a little far for you southerners.
I'd have to drive mine down there, how about the rest of you - Bruce, I guess you're trailering yours?

I can confirm that Rockingham is an excellent circuit for the Atom. The infield has some good twists and turns and then you can 'stretch your legs' on the outer ring. It's almost a mixture of a sprint circuit and a regular track. I had a great day with the Atom there last year - a lot of the drivers stopped running about 4pm and four of us had the circuit to ourselves until the end of the day. You've not driven the Atom until you've tried the Rockingham banking at top speed in fifth (or sixth if you're a MK2 bod). It's scarier than you think.
I noticed that EasyTrack have a date at Mallory on March 27th for £149 (www.easytrack.co.uk)
What d'you reckon?

I'm organising a charity day at Castle Combe on the 27th August and would welcome some more Atom's.
The website is www.track-attack.co.uk and if you wanted an area for a showcase stand then you can have as much room as you like.
Cheers

Tank driving???
Anyway, looking around, there's a good deal at the Hanover International, see: www.hanover-international.com/hinckley/index.php?option=1
Mallory have negotiated a special rate of £70 per room per night - which means that it would be £35 per head for room and full english breakfast for two sharing a twin or double. There's a large, secure car park with plenty of room for trailers. Anyone know anywhere better? Or shall we plump for this one (it has a leisure complex with a swimming pool!)
